The author’s purpose in this essay is to inform us of what it is like being a black person living in Canada, and also how the N- word is used regularly in common speech. The author achieves his purpose by using rhetorical devices such as giving examples from his personal experiences.

The author uses specific rhetorical devices in this essay including anecdotes, rhetorical questions, using many examples and situations he has come across in his life. The first device Hill uses is an anecdote about how his father laid down three rules that would help him through his life. The 1st was to study, the nd, was that if he didn’t achieve complete success at school or work than it was considered a failure, and the rd “was if anybody called you “nigger” I was to beat the hell out of him.” This is a very strong opening. It struck me as soon as I read it and I felt there was a little bit of hate in the author.

The first of many examples from the essay is one referring to the history of black people and what they have overcome. Hill says that over the 400 hundred years of black history his race have beaten numerous challenges, such as “the chains of slave vessels” and even “our own murderous infighting.” The purpose of this is to show that they have overcome all these things but they still cannot strip themselves from word. Hill’s examples are strong and make good points. His second shows the way various people use the N-word. Hill says that they’ve “hit the pinnacle of absurdity when white teenagers sling their arms around black friends and say Whassup my nigger?” He said that they do this because white people want a piece of the word. Hill gives us a different example of how people use the word, not only referring to black people. He stated that the Irish have been referred to as “the niggers of Europe.” He tells us this to show us that the word is known on a universal basis and that everyone everywhere knows it. Lawrence Hill then goes on to give examples on how the word is used in hip hop lyrics. This is an important area because the younger generations can relate to the songs they’ve heard with the N-word in it. He states that the Canadian hip hop artist Choclair changed the word “nigger” in his songs to “nigga.” Even though he changed it to “nigga” it still sounds a lot like the other and because of that the youth will still use the word. The last of Hills examples is that some people think the n-Word is making a comeback and that it is kosher to use it in normal conversation. Hill gives two good reasons why this statement fails. The first being that racists and racism still exists, and the second being that making this word appropriate to say would reflect a new trend.

Hill used three different anecdotes as a part of his rhetorical devices. Hill tells us about when he visited a drop-in centre where he met a white youth complaining that kids were calling him a “wigger” this is a insulting name for white people trying to be black. Hill didn’t understand this because he didn’t know why they would try to be black. His last anecdote occurs in the last paragraph of the essay. It is about a black female friend of his who wanted to read Harvard professor, Randall Kennedy’s book “Nigger The Strange Career of a Troublesome Word. She told him that she couldn’t bring herself to read the book on the subway because she didn’t want to be seen with the N-Word so close to her face. This was a good choice for the end of his essay, it hits you. Hill started out his essay with an anecdote about his father and ends with an anecdote about his friend. Hill is relating his essay to a very personal part of him. He uses the anecdotes to try and relate his personal situations and feelings to that of the reader. It is true that you will understand a writer more if you can relate to them someway, and telling a story was Hills way.

Hill asks one specific rhetorical question in his essay. He began by saying that if a young black man was to use this word around his mother he would be slapped across the face at once. Hill goes on to say that black people use the N-word because it hurts so much and that using it is saying that “we don’t run from it, we roll it into our art.” His question comes in asking does that take the sting out of the word? As you read the pace of the reader picks up as Hill gives us a quick answer to the question “NO.” Then he asks another question and three quick proofs are given to answer that question.

Hill uses so many different rhetorical devices to help prove his purpose of informing because he can’t have just one example of a situation. He needs to be able to show you his point on all levels. He gives strong examples and anecdotes, relating them to you and your feelings. Hill makes his purpose stand out that you have to know something about the topic before you can complete your opinion.

The tone of the essay tends to change as you read along. Hill starts it off with a really strong story about a lesson he had to learn. This sets the tome as sort of angry or aggressive. Hill then changes to an informative tone. This is when he gives facts and states his thesis. The tone jumps back and forth from these two completely different types. Hill can be sarcastic too when he is angry. He makes it seem like irony when the young white boy is called a wigger when he’s trying to act black, but its okay for him to call his black friends nigger. The tones appropriateness to the essay’s purpose is good. The tone is informative when it has to be and it is aggressive when Hill is making a point.

“You do as you experienced.”

Employing artistic and literary devices towards the equivalent goal to reproduce forms of imagination to which the mind will recur with pleasure, a binding link between art and literature is established. A proof to this link is that both art and literature reflect the social context in which they were produced.

The social context in which an artist lives in heavily influences his or her painting. During the Renaissance, an age that spanned the fourteenth to sixteenth centuries, Western art reached its pinnacle, and although Michelangelos work embodies its grandest artistic achievements, no life embodies the Renaissance as grandly and completely than that of Leonardo da Vincis. He more than any other individual then earned the title Universal man. It was not un-rare for Renaissance artists to engage themselves in various intellectual interests; Leonardo, however, was unparalleled in both the breadths of his interests and the thoroughness with which he studied them. Renaissance works of art existed largely for their own sake, as objects of ideal beauty and pertaining to the human soul, mind and body. Leonardo clearly displayed this belief in his many extant drawings, which reveal his brilliant draftsmanship and his mastery of the anatomy of humans, animals, and plant life. In addition, Marc Chagall was profoundly affected by his home, background, and religion. In one of his notorious painting, I and the Village, Chagall’s childhood Russian Jewish community is evidently manifested. Clearly, because his Jewish background effected him greatly Chagall chose to create a replica of his very own Jewish village. Both in Leonardo and Chagall’s paintings the time- period they experienced is reflected in their paintings, whether through the theme, background, or their artistic devices.

Furthermore, in literature the social context effects an authors method of writing just the same. The life of Edgar Allan Poe was, like so many of his tales, short, poignant, and strangely haunted. From a very young age he experienced many deaths and consequently began to drink alcohol. Due to this fact, Poe’s writings became very daunting, with a common theme of death. For example, in his short story “The Cask of Amontillado” not only is the whole plot surrounded with alcohol (a cask of amontillado) his theme of revenge and death is equally portrayed. Additionally, Mark Twain lived during the Reconstruction, the period directly after the civil war which failed because although federalists tried to change the mind-set of many to prejudice the outlook on racism never did change. In Twain’s book Huck Finn, Jim a black slave constantly works to free himself but all the while he is truly free through the will of his owner. Mark twain shows this irony of trying to free an already free man similar to the irony taking place during the Reconstruction. The federalists tried to show that all blacks are equal when really any human should have equal rights.

Act II, Scene VII

In this scene, Shakespeare discusses seven stages of life. Throughout Shakespeares speech, he mocks life. Shakespeare gives a pastoral setting.

At first the infant, Mewling and puking in the nurses arms. This is the first stage describing how we come to life. Shakespeare uses descriptions of mewling and puking, meaning vomit. He gives a gross outlook on being born instead of a happy setting of coming into this world.

Then the whining school-boy, with his satchel/And shining morning face, creeping like snail/ Unwillingly to school, this is the second stage. Shakespeare is showing a common example of a boy going to school not interested and not wanting to school. Education is one of the most important things in life, without it you can go nowhere in life so the boy should not be upset but joyous for the fact that he is lucky enough to go to school.

Custom writing service can write essays on As You Like It

The lover, sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad/ Made to his mistress eyebrow, this is the third stage. Shakespeare is showing the act of falling in love, being at the womans every moment.

Then a soldier,/Full of wise saws and modern instances; in this stage this stage Shakespeare is making fun of how a boy will go to war, and not know what he is fighting for.

Then the justice,/In fair round belly with good capon lined.., this is the fifth stage. The justice can be compared to a very old man. Shakespeare describes him with a full belly and all knowing. The justice has lived his life and he knows everything, he is very wise.

The lean and slipperd pantaloon, this is the sixth stage. A pantaloon is a reference to the figure of Pantalone in the Italian Commedia dell Arte tradition. The Pantalone was a foolish figure, made fun of by the other characters. The pantaloon is an object of a joke. This can be compared to an old man screaming at young boys playing on his lawn.

The last stage is Is second childishness and mere oblivion. This stage is ultimately death. There is no more living and you have done your deed as being a human.

Desire is a quality inherent to every human being. Each person possesses within themselves certain cravings, whether they be good or bad, saintly or malicious, frivolous or practical. In fact, the play King Lear clearly states that the desire for something greater than basic needs is what separates man from beast. While most people attempt to protect themselves from being overcome with their own greed and desire, some simply give into this deadly vice. They allow their lives to become focused solely upon the quest for money, status, influence, love, or whatever satiates their longing. For many of the characters in King Lear, the desire for power became their most destructive vice and eventually led to ruin, betrayal and death.

In the opening scene of the play, Goneril and Regan, the two eldest daughters of the aging King Lear, are seen contending for their father’s inheritance. At Lear’s request, they engage in a sort-of contest where they each express why they love him the most. In both of their flamboyantly flattering speeches, they profess undying love to their father who sits by and watches this sickening spectacle. The two sisters, clearly vying for a more lavish part of the inheritance, engage in shameless flattery in an obvious struggle for power (in the form of land). By stating, “I love you more than the world can wield,” and “I find myself felicitate in your dear Highness’ love,” the girls clearly show their brazenness toward their aging father. The comments of Cordelia do much to solidify their falsity as she states, “…I am sure my love is more ponderous than my tongue.” When she refuses to take the same path of extravagant compliments as her sisters, it shows that, because Lear favors her the most, her intentions were the most genuine. Thus the play shows that virtue is placed on the one who does not covet greater power.

The desire for power further manifests itself in the sisters even after they gain their respective inheritances. The two, nearly overwhelmed with power and responsibility, still feel the need to manipulate the people around them, namely those who remain loyal to their father. They are under the impression that the Earl of Kent, Lear’s most loyal supporter, has been exiled and thus turn their wrath toward the Earl of Gloucester. They know that he maintained allegiance to their father, and took advantage of his weakened state which resulted from his manipulation at the hands of his son. In the most gruesome scene of the play, Regan and her equally power-hungry husband, the Duke of Cornwall, engage in gouging out Gloucester’s eyes for aiding her father on his way to Dover. This brutal act epitomizes Regan’s struggle for power as she ignores any sense of decency while torturing an old man for looking out for her father. She even goes so far as to reveal Edmund’s treachery against him, information she knew would destroy the aged Earl. She does not exercise the slightest amount of mercy in revealing his son as she states that “thou call’st on him that hates thee.” By this time, it is obvious that the girls, especially Regan, are completely consumed with the desire for power.

Within that gruesome scene, however, appears a character who exemplifies the antithesis of this struggle for power. The only person in the room during Regan and Cornwall’s torture of Gloucester who spoke up against their brutality was the servant of Cornwall. Without doubt, this virtuous man possessed no desire for power or self-advancement, and instead acted based upon his own morals and values. In his plea to Cornwall, he stated that, “I have served you ever since I was a child; But better service I have never done you Than now to bid you hold.” Then, when Cornwall refuses to yield, the two fight and Regan, in a fit of rage, stabs the servant. This demonstrates well the infectious and destructive nature of the desire for power as it seemingly triumphs over virtue and humility.

Another character who embodies the want for authority is the bastard son of Gloucester, Edmund. From the very beginning, Edmund is introduced as different from his brother, Edgar. In the opening scene, Gloucester goes out of his way to label Edmund as a bastard, although he does have feelings of affection for the young man. Perhaps it is this separation that triggers Edmund’s feelings of hatred toward his father and his half brother, Edgar, who is Gloucester’s legitimate son and heir to his fortune. In his first soliloquy, Edmund reveals his disgust in Gloucester’s love for Edgar and his intention to bring him down and win the love of their father.

“Legitimate Edgar, I must have your land [16]

Our fathers love is to the bastard Edmund

As to the legitimate fine word,--legitimate!

Well, my legitimate, if this letter speed,

And my invention thrive, Edmund the base [0]

Shall top the legitimate. I grow; I prosper

Now, gods, stand up for bastards!”

Paralleling the filial infidelity of Regan and Goneril, he too takes advantage of his trusting father and also seeks to destroy his brother. The two plots are very similar, both incorporating the fall of one character and the rise of another. Unfortunately for the risen, they are all eventually brought down; By the end, Edgar himself states that, “The wheel is come full circle I am here.” By this he means that he has risen, as if on a wheel, and inevitably descended back to his rightful place.

Finally, the two parallel plots come together at the end as the two sisters battle for the hand of Edmund in order to complete their scope of power. It becomes obvious that Goneril has already established a relationship with Edmund, despite her marriage to the Duke of Albany. And, after Cornwall is slain by his servant, Regan announces her intention to seek the hand of Edmund. The sisters are obviously drawn to Edmund’s recent acquisition of Gloucester’s inheritance and aim to expand their own holdings by marrying him. Goneril’s betrayal of her living husband, though, appears far more scandalous than Regan’s intentions of marrying Edmund. Once again, they both show their shamelessness in seeking whatever will further their personal gains. Unfortunately, this struggle would turn the two against each other, as their desires once again overcame familial loyalty. In the final scene, after Edmund has been revealed, and in an ironic turn of events, a gentleman enters and announces to the Duke of Albany that, “Your lady, sir, your lady [is dead] and her sister by her is poisoned; she confesses it.” In the end, the common desire that the two shared destroyed them both, as well as destroying Edmund, the object of their yearning. And Albany, who is the voice of reason in this scene, says, “This judgement of the heavens, that makes us tremble, touches us not with pity,” because he knows that they all faced the fate to which they had been prescribed. Their actions came full circle and they were destroyed by the vices that they so emphatically embraced.

At the conclusion of this play, the resulting carnage allows the reader to see just how deadly the vice of desire was for the characters. The bodies of Regan, Goneril, Cordelia, Gloucester, Lear and Edmund plainly show the result of striving for power. Lear himself eventually regretted the loss of power, but only because he finally realized what good he could have done with it. Cordelia, like the servant, represented virtue as her loyalty to Lear endured through her exile to France. Unfortunately for her, as well as Gloucester, their loyalty was not rewarded. Gloucester, though, did die happy when he realized that Poor Tom was his true, loving son, Edgar.

Even more than jealousy, ignorance, lust or pride, desire led to the downfall of these characters. Some were the innocent victims, while some were the purveyors of this deadly vice. In the end, though, it was so strong that it mastered all loyalty and love. It ripped apart families, caused murder, suicide and madness. However, the surviving characters learned a valuable lesson. They learned that power does not lead to happiness and that one’s family should be the recipient of all loyalty. In one of Albany’s final addresses, he states very simply that, “All friends shall taste/The wages of their virtue and all foes/The cup of their deservings.” And he was correct the lives of the ones who gave into power were eventually shattered, as well as the lives of the ones they loved.

This poem was written by Rashid Peters a former child soldier in Sierra Leone only 15 years old.

I would have told you I have so much to gain

With the heavy arms I lug at war.

I killed and raped and maimed and more.

Abducted away from my mother and father

to shoot and murder another

I cannot go any further,

with this shooting and killing that has no border.

Forgive me now if I injured your brother.

I was forced to pull the trigger

By elders who made my childhood wither.

In reality, child soldiers are children young enough to lift a rifle. Denied a childhood and often subjected to horrific violence, some 00,000 children are serving as soldiers in current armed conflicts. These young combatants participate in all aspects of contemporary warfare. They wield AK-47s and M-16s on the front lines of combat, serve as human mine detectors and participate in suicide missions.

Children have now become easy prey for armies. Physically vulnerable and easily intimidated, children typically make obedient soldiers. They are cheaper to keep as they eat less and are easier to manipulate.

Involving children as soldiers has been made easier by the making and selling of inexpensive light weapons. Before, the more dangerous weapons were either heavy or difficult to use, but these guns are so light that children can use them and so simple that they can be stripped and reassembled by a child of 10. The poorest communities now have access to deadly weapons capable of transforming any local conflict into a bloody slaughter. In Uganda, an AK-47 automatic machine gun can be purchased for the cost of a chicken and, in Northern Kenya, it can be bought for the price of a goat.

Children in developing countries desecrated by ongoing civil war find the only road to survival is to wield a gun. In Liberia in 10, children as young as seven were seen in combat because, according to the Director of the Liberian Red Cross, those with guns could survive.

Most of the children in armies come from conditions of poverty and ignorance where they don’t understand war and their involvement is a means of survival.

Children seeking escape from poverty join military forces out of desperation however the majority of child soldiers are abducted and enslaved into guerrilla groups. Children of 15 or younger have been abducted from the villages and the poorest quarters of the cities, as well as from schools to enlarge forces. Once recruited as soldiers, children are treated as adults. Childrens actual duties in warfare cover the whole range of military activities. While children might be thought to be the people deserving greatest protection, as soldiers they are often considered the most expendable. Captured children are forced to kill implicating them in criminal acts making them fear being shunned should they manage to escape back to their community. Thus the army and the elders who stole their innocence become the only choice remaining to these children.

In Northern Uganda the Lords Resistance Army (LRA), an armed opposition movement fighting the Ugandan Government has over the last twelve years abducted more than 1,000 children and forced them to become child soldiers and slaves. Ninety per cent of the LRA are children, mostly aged between thirteen and sixteen kept and forced to work in conditions so appalling that it amounts to slavery.

The abducted children are systematically terrorized and brutalized. Once recruited, children undergo varying degrees of indoctrination. socializing them into violence. The elders in charge control all aspects of the children, they are tyrannized to take part in atrocities and forced to take drugs to overcome their fear or reluctance to fight.

In the civil war in Sierra Leone often after the RUF attacks a village they abduct the surviving children. The children witness or take part in the torture and execution of their own relatives are then removed to special camps, trained usually for about two or three months on how to kill other people. Thousands of children witnessed and participated in horrible atrocities against civilians, including beheadings, amputations, rape, and burning people alive.

Girls are also used as soldiers in many parts of the world. In addition to combat duties, girls are subject to sexual abuse and may be taken as “wives” by rebel leaders in Angola, Sierra Leone and Sudan. In Uganda they are forced into what the children call marriage to senior LRA soldiers or are given as a sexual reward for boy soldiers who are obedient. Nearly 100% of escaped girls and women from Sudan after being child soldiers have sexually transmitted diseases.

Because of their immaturity and lack of experience, child soldiers suffer higher casualties than their adult counterparts. Few peace treaties recognize the existence of child soldiers, or make provisions for their rehabilitation and reintegration into society. As a result, many end up on the street, become involved in crime, or are drawn back into armed conflict. Rehabilitation of the child soldiers is a difficult process. The children have been brutalized and have carried out killings. They have wielded life-and-death power over adults often in their local communities.

It is often suggested that too much money is spent for defense in both the developed and developing countries of the world, and that some of that money might instead be used to relieve hunger and to promote childrens survival and development. But, worldwide, many national budgets stay sharply skewed in favor of defense year after year to secure safety. If security means the protection of our most precious assets, child survival should be high on the agenda of all defense departments. Why isnt it? Perhaps in reality, the operational function of defense establishments is not so much to maintain the security of the country as a whole but to assure that the powerful remain in power. Rather than serving all their citizens interests, defense budgets serve the survival of the rich, not the children or the poor.

The world continues to watch as child soldiers are denied a childhood, only educated in violence in the interest of others. Are they responsible for their actions of destruction if they are forced to carry out these actions? To carry a gun is the cost of their survival but what does this really cost the world? Children uneducated brought up in evil, what is the future? The territorial and civil wars where child soldiers are trapped in torment may be of no consequence to your life. Their suffering however touches and effects everyone’s future as through technology and globalization the world has become a smaller place bound closely together. I am sixteen and comparing my life of opportunity and freedom to that of Rashid Peters a former child soldier a year younger than me makes me question the morals which fabricate society. If I were powerless and suffering, I would hope that those

Mexico City is the capitol of Mexico and the center of the nations politics, culture and economic environment. Its current population is around 17 million which makes it the second largest metropolitan area in the world behind Tokyo, Japan.

Mexico was built on the ruins of Tenochtitian, which was the capital of the Aztec Empire. The Aztecs had developed an advanced civilization that dominated much of what is now the country of Mexico during the 15th and 16th centuries. In the early 16th century Spanish explorers arrived and conquered the Aztecs, founding Mexico city on the Aztec ruins. Mexico City soon became the center of Spain’s American colonies. Mexico gained its independence from Spain in the 180s and Mexico City became the capitol of the new nation.

Mask uncovered from Tlatilco

The central region of the Mexican high plateau has been inhabited by different peoples for at least 0,000 years. Evidence of this is found through artifacts uncovered at Tlapacoya and Tepexpan, although it is believed that the capitol of civilizations in Mesoamerica (Known as Olmeca), was actually focused on around the Gulf coast of Mexico between 1500B.C. and 500 B.C. These remains found at Tlatilco are mostly small figurines believed to be included in burial offerings. Others believe that these objects were dedicated to a cult to the dead which existed in the pre-Hispanic era.

Other groups slowly developed settlements along the shores of the lakes, living off of small agriculture, fish, and small game which was usually caught in the surrounding forests. “Copilco, Tetelplan and Cuicuilco were some of the more notable ceremonial sites existing during the period from 500 B.C. to 100 A.D..” Cuicuilco was particularly special due to its circular pyramid which was eventually undone by lava flows from the Xitle volcano, which erupted during the 1st Century A.D..

Over the years from 100 to 00 A.D., many different human groups settled and flourished in the central part of Mesoamerica, the most important of which was Taotihuacan (around 0 miles northeast of Mexico City). “During this era the distinction of social classes was consolidated and an extraordinary level of urban planning, with carefully delineated rules of art and architecture linked to religious worship and everyday life was achieved.” Most of these societies based their economies on planned agriculture, trade, and military rule.

Between 650 and 00 A.D., the city fell to surrounding establishments and relinquished its position of power. Other communities that rose to stand in its place were cities such as Xochicalco, Cacaxtla, and Cholula. The controlling military ideas of Teotihuacan were passed on and taken in by the Toltecas, whose culture grew and helped to aid in the fall of the city Tula, in around 1168.

A major change came in the 1th century with the arrival of the Mexica, whose primary god was Huizilopochtli, meaning Left-handed Hummingbird. Led by a priest Tenoch, one by one they conquered the established tribes and secured themselves a place by the lakes. In 1, they settled at Chapultepec, only to be driven out by the Acuhuas, forcing them to relocate to an island in the lake. The vision of and eagle devouring a snake while perched on a cactus growing on the island signified that the journey for the Mexica was over, and they established the City of Mexico- Tenochtitlan on June 8th 15.

Map of the origins of Mexico City and the surrounding areas

Due to the connections of the Mexica with the surrounding groups and people, Tenochtitlan became a melting pot for many different cultures. “Within the short period of about 00 years, they were able to expand to vastly, conquer surrounding tribes, and build a magnificent city. This expansion was done under the rules of Izcoatl, Moctezuma I, Axayacatl, Tizoc, Ahyuizotl, and Moctezuma II.”

One of the biggest parts of the culture of the Aztecs was their religious beliefs and their monuments and holy constructions. The most prevalent of these constructions was the Templo Mayor. The Templo Mayor was a double pyramid dedicated to the gods Tlaloc, god of water and rain, and Huitzilopochtli, god of war. There were many other temples, all of which were dedicated to a certain god who represented a certain purpose. The Templo Mayor stood as “not only the most visible landmark of a vast urban infrastructure, but also represented the cosmic center of a universe which required frequent human sacrifice to sustain it.”

The Aztecs started to branch out off of the small island that was the original city through a system of land refill and reclamation through small floating plots of land (Chinampas). Out of these came small canals which connected houses, palaces, temples, “a fully stocked zoo”, plazas, markets, and even aqueducts. All of this construction and public mobility promoted a social and political organization centered around small productive communities, Calpulli.

The city remained connected with the rest of the civilizations in the valley through the large causeway with a network of bridges and dams, as well as jetties and docks. One of the most impressive things about these early settlement cities is their ability to blend the lines between rural and urban environments. By 151, the city was a dominant presence in the world, in terms of structures as well as advances.

Simon

The character of Simon plays an important role in the story Lord of the Flies by William Golding. He is a visionary and an intellect, always trying to find the truth. Simon is primarily a symbolic figure. Also, Simons encounter with the Lord of the Flies has notable significance in the story. Golding uses the character of Simon to reveal humanitys ignorance.

Simons intuitive wisdom separates him from the rest of the boys. He foretells Ralphs eventual rescue from the island by saying, I think youll get back all right. Furthermore, Simon has an inward sight that the beast was only a man once heroic and sick. His intelligence leads him to recognize the boys fear of themselves and that there is no beast, it is only them. The boys ignore his words of wisdom and laugh at what they cannot understand.

Simon symbolizes many things. He represents the prophets and philosophers that Golding feels are being ignored just as Simon is ignored by the boys. He characterizes the highest aspirations of the human spirit. It has also been said that Simon is an intended Christ figure in the novel. He is a symbol of all that is good and sincere in humanity.

Custom Essays on the lord of the flies

The confrontation of Simon and the Lord of the Flies is one of the more important events in the book. It depicts the goodness of mankind encountering the lowest part of man. The meeting represents the recognition of these forces in all men. This is when Simon fully understands that the beast is within each of the boys. Through this event, Golding expresses his belief that evil exists inside everyone and it is a necessary part of the human condition.

Simon is a mystical figure. The insightful wisdom that he possesses regrettably goes unseen by the boys and this inability to comprehend Simon is what leads to the disintegration of the society of the island. Golding is saying is that humanity is deaf to the voices of its prophets. Golding also expresses his point of view by Simons interview with Lord of the Flies where he indicates that man is inherently evil. The author communicates his morals and beliefs through the character of Simon.

Medical marijuana good or bad. Marijuana is a plant that grows in the ground and has high quantites of thc. The plant gets you high. Some people like to call marijuana trees. Marijuana does have some medical value. It relieves the feeling of nausia. Marijuan is know as a drug that has led kids to other drugs. Marijuana as a legal drug has helped patients feel better for a period of time. The drug marijuana is something Americans hear about everyday. Our society has been taught that marijuana is just as bad as heroine or cocaine. To some extent I agree with this concept. The only problem I have is that marijuana is not all bad.

Marijuana has been proven to help patients who have diseases such as cancer and glaucoma. It helps rheumatism and stomach problems. Some of these patients cannot be treated with commonly used drugs and treatments. They are then left without an alternative so many of them turn to marijuana. The problem with this is that marijuana is illegal in every state except for nine. If the state of Ohio were to legalize marijuana for medical purposes only, it would alleviate many peoples pain and concern. I propose that the state of Ohio pass a law stating that critically ill patients will not be prosecuted for using the illegal drug marijuana.

For example take Steve Mitchell from Garberville California. He had been properly diagnosed with testicular cancer in 11. The cancer spread and he became severely ill. The chemotherapy made him very sick, and he was vomiting constantly and had no appetite. He tried everything from Zofran a new drug, to Marino a synthetic THC drug and nothing worked. One day a co-worker of his asked his wife if they had tried marijuana yet, and she told him that the doctors had told him no because it was illegal. One evening that week the friend brought him a joint and he smoked it. Within a short amount of time he had immediate relief. He suddenly had an appetite again and when the nurse saw him she could not believe what she observed. She asked what brought on the miracle and they told her what he had done. She said that they would be kicked out of the hospital if anyone found out but she didnt tell and Steves cancer is now in remission.

This law has already been passed in California, Alaska, Colorado, Arizona, Oregon, Hawaii, Maine, Washington and Nevada. The law would entail very detailed restrictions and regulations. The first step would be to have all patients and caretakers register with the state. After a person is registered he/she would then be given an identification card. This would take care of any confusion that might occur with the law-enforcement. In order to acquire one of these cards a doctor must prescribe marijuana.

Order Custom Essay on Medical Marijuana

The next step would be to restrict the amount of marijuana a person may possess. In other states people who have a card are allowed to grow their own marijuana. In my law I propose that marijuana be grown in state run greenhouses. This would be a way to prevent people from abusing their privileges of being able to have marijuana. The greenhouses would be located in major cities all around Ohio. Toledo, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland. These cities are the biggest and all of them easy to locate. A person who would go to these greenhouses would be allowed to purchase more than one mature marijuana plant. Each plant should cost $100. The money generated from these greenhouses could go back into the state fund.

Someone who violates his/her privileges of being able to purchase medical marijuana should be punished the same as people who get charged with illegal possession of marijuana. The rate of people who abuse medical marijuana is very low. The people who obtain this marijuana really do need it and will not sell it for recreational purposes.

Many organizations support the legalizing of marijuana for medical purposes only. Some of them include American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Student Association, and the American Preventive Medical Association.

If you think that marijuana is bad for all people, evens severely ill patients then think back to Steve. Think about how his life was improved just by simply using a forbidden drug. He would not have had to break a law in order to feel better. That is wrong and unjust. Patients who are severely ill should be able to use a medication that is declared safe by a doctor in order to make them feel normal again. Ohio should legalize marijuana for medical purposes and make a difference in peoples lives.

Religious freedom has been an issue throughout the world all through history. Since religion existed there have been conflicts and persecution of other because they had different beliefs. Religious freedom in the British North American colonies prior to 1700 was important to a very large extent because there was so little.

First there were the Puritans. They were persecuted in Europe, but were one of the dominant faiths in the British colonies in North America. The Puritans believed in religious uniformity so of course this led to harsh laws against anyone who didn’t follow the basic Puritan principles. People such as Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson were expelled because they spoke out against the Puritans. They also imposed harsh punishments that went as far as death sentences for those who went against them.

The Jews were another group that made their way to the Americas. The first group of Jews to arrive in the Americas was a small shipload of refugees from Dutch Brazil. Jews endured many hardships with religious prosecution. In some places death penalties were placed on Jews for the sole reason that they were Jewish. Many of these penalties also applied to atheists.

Quakers were another prominent faith in the British North American colonies. Quakers are sometimes referred to as “radical Puritans.” This extremely religious group of people was persecuted severely in England so many of them migrated to the colonies. They did still face some religious persecution but they did create many prosperous towns as well as having Pennsylvania to themselves.

Custom writing service can write essays on The extent to which religious freedom existed in the colonies prior to 1770.

Roman Catholics were one of the most prosecuted religions in the British colonies. They were forced to leave England because of extreme persecution. After landing in Maryland they slowly became a smaller and smaller minority. Once the Glorious Revolution ended Roman Catholics were deprived of many rights such as the right to vote, hold office, or worship publicly.

Since the first colonists arrived the struggle for religious freedom began in the Americas. The different religious conflicts affected to a large degree the way many of the colonies developed. Such things such as the Salem Witch Trials show the religious tension in the colonies. Because of the lack of toleration in the colonies such as the harsh persecution of Catholics and the death penalty placed on Jews and Atheists as well as people who just disagreed it led to the different developments of the colonies.

Greek Mythological Creatures

The Greeks created myths to both entertain and to explain the unexplainable. The stories told of great heroes, immortal gods, and fierce monsters. I think that the latter are the most interesting and entertaining of the three, and I am going to tell you about five of the biggest, deadliest, and meanest creatures to ever appear in mythology.

The Cyclopes were very interesting creatures. They appear mainly twice in mythology, once in the creation story and once in homer’s The Odyssey. Theses two stories show the Cyclopes as very different creatures. In both of the stories, the Cyclopes were giants with one huge, round eye in the middle of their forehead.

In the first story there were only three Cyclopes. They were sons of Gaia (earth) and Uranus (sky). Their names were Brontes (thunder), Steroes(lightning), and Arges (brightness). After birth, they were imprisoned below earth by Uranus, and later by Cronus. They were skilled blacksmiths, and their fiery workshops were found deep under the earth, thought by some to be beneath mount Etna. Zeus freed the Cyclopes when he rebelled against the titans, and they repaid him by making some things to aid him and his brothers in their fight. For Zeus, they created a magnificent thunderbolt. For Poseidon, they made a mighty trident. Finally, for Hades the conceived a helmet that made its wearer invisible, so he could surprise his victims. The Cyclopes and some other creatures helped Zeus to a triumphant victory over the titans. They were allowed to stay on earth from then on and were thought of as Zeus’s loyal blacksmiths.

Order Custom grrrk mythological creatures paper

In The Odyssey, the Cyclopes were portrayed very differently. In this story, they were horrible cannibalistic monsters. There were many of them and they lived in caves scattered across the island of Sicily. They did what they pleased, and cared only for themselves. They had no society nor any respect for the gods. Polyphemus, the Cyclopes that terrorized Odysseus and his men displayed this when he says, “ We Cyclopes care not a jot for Zeus with his aegis, nor for the rest of the blessed gods, since we are much stronger than they.” (Dibbley 6).

Even more astounding than the Cyclopes were the Hundred Handers. Also known as the Hekatonchires, these three giants were truly amazing. They were huge and strong beyond all telling; from their shoulders sprang one hundred arms terrible to behold and each had fifty heads upon its shoulders, growing from sturdy bodies (March 05). They were sons of Gaia and Uranus, and therefore were brothers of the Cyclopes. Their names were Briareos (or Agaeon), Cottus, and Gyges (or Gyes). When they were born, their father was so repulsed by the sight of them, he tried to push them back into their mother’s womb. They were imprisoned in Tartarus, and like the Cyclopes, were released by Zeus when he rebelled against the titans. After the titans were defeated, and Zeus threw them into Tartarus, and he gave the job of guarding the gates of Tartarus to assure that none ever escaped, to the great Hundred-Handers. Later, when the gods of Olympus tried to overthrow Zeus, Briareos, the mightiest of the three brothers went to help him. The mere sight of the Hundred-Handed giant was enough to stop the gods.

The great beast called Typhon may very well be the biggest, scariest, and most deadly creature of them all. He was the last challenge of the power of Zeus. The Typhon’s origin differs; depending on which story you read.

One story tells that he was the child of Hera alone. It says that she was jealous when Zeus produced Athena from his mind, so she prayed to Gaia to make a creature even more powerful than the king of the gods himself, and Gaia heard. Not much later hera gave birth to the monster. In the other story, the Typhon was the child of Tartarus and Gaia.

Either way, this creature was very, very disturbing. On his shoulders were a hundred hideous snake heads, all with black tongues and glaring eyes. These heads could produce every sound thinkable (lion’s roar, stampede of bulls, etc.). The Typhon was taller than all the mountains; his head was said to have touched the stars. His mouth shot flames, his body was winged, and instead of fingers he had a hundred serpents heads on each hand. From the thighs down he was nothing but huge coiling serpents. When he stretched his hands out, one touched the east, and one touched the west.

Amazingly, Zeus defeated this horrible monster, although it was no easy task. The Typhon cut off Zeus’s hands and feet and put them in a leather bag. The Typhon flew the helpless god off to his cave. Zeus found the bag in a corner of the cave and put them back on. He then threw mount Etna on top of the beast, ending the ordeal. The volcano is supposedly caused by the Typhon struggling to escape.

Another amazing creature, the Sphinx, comes from a particularly gruesome family. Her mother was Echidna the half women, half serpent monster. Its siblings were the horrible multi headed Hydra, the three headed dog Cerberus, the great Nemean Lion, and the fire breathing chimera.

The bloodthirsty Sphinx had the body of a lion, the wings of an eagle, a serpent for a tail, and the face and breasts of a woman. Hera sent the Sphinx to punish the people of Thebes. It lived atop a mountain just outside of the city and would ask all the people who walked by a perplexing riddle. It went like this “What creature walks on four legs in the morning, two in the afternoon, and three in the evening?”(Dibbley 18) If the person answered incorrectly, as everyone did, the Sphinx would strangle him or her and eat them immediately. The sphinx continued to kill people since no one could answer this odd riddle. Finally, one day, the hero Oedipus came across the Sphinx, and answered the riddle correctly (The answer was a human). When the Sphinx realized that her riddle had been solved, she was so enraged that she jumped off the mountain onto some jagged rocks, killing herself.

The last creature I am going to talk about is the Chimera. The Chimera is a sibling of the Sphinx and another child of Echidna. The Chimera was a truly bizarre monster. It had two heads, one a lion’s, and one a goat’s. It had the body of a lion and a serpent for a tail. To top it off, this deadly monstrosity breaths fire. The Chimera was killed when Bellerophon, riding Pegasus, jammed a chunk of lead into its throat. The beast’s fire breath melted the lead, causing it to drip down her throat, scorching its insides.

Those are just five of the amazing creatures used in Greek mythology. I didn’t even mention the snake-haired gorgons, the soul eating harpies, the half bull, half man Mintaur, or the graceful flying steed Pegasus. As you can see, the Greeks were some very imaginative people and it seems like the myths never end.

Throughout the vast Canadian region there are not many regions or territories where you will find a desert biome. However, there are a few. The arid regions, Thompson River Valley in beautiful British Columbia and the east Alberta badlands. Also the high arctic deserts which are extremely cold and dried. Deserts are usually located in areas near the equator. However, they are also most likely found in areas which receive less than 5 cm of precipitation per year. As well as regions where they receive more rainfall but less occasionally throughout the year. You will most likely associate deserts with cacti, camels, and sand dunes, but there is much more to it than just that. Deserts have a varied species of animals that have adapted to the harsh climate of the desert.

The deserts climate is very hot and dry. Not many plants and animals can survive, but the ones that do are adapted to the torturous climate and at night it cools down to very cold temperatures. Most are just barren lands with sand that stretches for miles. The deserts in North America(Canada) tend to receive long droughts that occur in the rain shadow. This Rain shadow arrives as a cloudburst or thunderstorm continually. The warm arid deserts usually cannot absorb any kind of precipitation or moisture because of the sun-baked surface; therefore much of the moisture that does touch the sun-baked surface of the desert drains away as runoff. The warm deserts, such as those near the Badlands in Alberta, hardly get any precipitation because the rain drops falling from a cloud often will evaporate before a single drop even reaches the ground. There isnt much living organisms found in the Arctic deserts, due to the harsh cool climate. However, they do receive much precipitation throughout the year, precipitation being snow.

The warm arid deserts are found in Alberta, toward the badlands and in the eastern part of British Columbia. All the cooler deserts are found up north in the arctic regions. Up in the arctic temperatures can reach all the way up to -50°C, without windchills, and the warm deserts can reach all the way up to 57°C in the summer and at night it goes down to 10°C. Most deserts tend to receive 0% of our incoming solar energy because most deserts tend to be located close to the equator.

In the desert, steadily winds erode rock into tiny particles and dust storms that scour the land surface helps in the soil form. Desert soil is dominated by more rock particles. Because of the harsh warm climate in most deserts the plants cannot provide the soil with much organic matter and therefore soil organisms, such as earthworms cannot endure the sand. Therefore, the soil found in the desert isnt one of good quality. Also , those burrowing rodents and organisms which helped loosen the soil have been exterminated through pest control programs; therefore the water from rainfall cannot soak in easily anymore.

Most deserts dont receive much water throughout the year. The arctic deserts receive a lot of snowfall. However, those arid deserts usually receive around 5 cm of rainfall per year, if that. Most North American deserts though receive long droughts and thunderstorms, however then dont receive as much throughout the year then. However, as mentioned previously most rainfall is evaporated before even reaching the ground.

Animals in the desert must survive in a harsh environment. Intense heat, searing sun, and lack of water are some challenges desert animals are faced with. There are a good amount of species found within the desert biomes. Most species are nocturnal and go out at night when it is cooler, because the days tend to get too warm. One animal found in the desert is the scorpion. They have enlarged claws used for capturing their prey. Another animal that is found in the warm deserts are lizards and snakes. They tend to dive into the sand, as if it were water, to cool off. Snakes and lizards adapt well into this Biome because they do not have sweat glands in their skin, therefore they cannot lose water through their sweating as many mammals do. Lizards also lift their legs to lift their tails and bodies off the hot ground when walking on the sand. One of the other common desert animals is the jackrabbit. The jackrabbit has the adaptation of large ears that radiate heat so it doesnt get too hot. It also has strong hind legs that will help it jump away from its predators. They usually eat small desert plants or whatever they can find on the desert floor.

Human Activity within the desert has tarnished many organisms. First of all, the soil has been tilled and crops have been replaced by native plants. Also, the many animals and species have been exterminated because of the damage of crops and many habitats have also been destroyed by man. However many national state parks now offer a protection from civilization. This is to protect the species, habitats and to preserve some of the original beauty and richness that only deserts can offer.

The desert Biome is one Biome which is extraordinarily special and unique in its own vast way. The tranquility and diversity that it shares with all other biomes truly illuminates the contrast and grace it has breathing within it.

More and more children and students these days seem to be more preoccupied with their schoolwork than ever. With new curriculums and testing in progress we have to stop and think how much stress students are in these days. Not many people stop to think about the younger generation. The amount of homework assigned to students should be reduced.

First, the amount of homework should be reduced because children need to be children. It seems that even younger elementary children are being assigned two to three hours of homework a night. A couple years ago a ten-year-old would have twenty hours of homework and now they are stuck with hours of it. Children should be climbing amongst trees and riding their bikes until bed time. Not doing homework until eight oclock.

Secondly, students and children all need some time to them selves and a social life. They need to have time in their schedule to go out with friends or spend time with their family talking and hanging out. How are students supposed to learn how to socialize with others in the future, like in a working environment, if they never get the opportunity or time to do so? Also, students need time to them selves. To relax their mind and body. With so much homework, there isnt time for any of this anymore.

Lastly, if the amount of homework is reduced, students would be able to focus better. Two hours of homework in each subject does add up, and teachers dont realize that. How are students supposed to enjoy school or a subject, let alone stay focussed in class when theyre up until ten or eleven oclock completing homework? It has come to the point where most students dont even bother doing it anymore. If students spend an overall of two hours each night on homework they will have time for other things. Such as, extra curricular activities, clubs, and socializing, they would be a lot happier. Not to mention, they wouldnt be as frustrated or tired, so they would stay focussed more. Therefore, children and students must act and do as individuals their age are supposed to. Students need time to themselves or they will build up so much stress inside that will one day explode, causing them to react in anger or have a mental breakdown. They also need a social life they can build upon and so they feel some control in their life. When the amount of homework is reduced, students will be able to stay focussed more, theyll feel less stressful and they will be a happier and healthier person both inside and out.

Reality Is Perception

Human reality is full of physical objects but how humans perceive these objects is completely objective, depending on the person and their senses. Perception of physical objects cannot occur without other objects that allow one to perceive these manifestations in the first place. When a sentient being acknowledges that they exist in a world of physical objects, they also confirm that their sense perception functions to an extent that allows them to reason,

even to a small degree, their physical existence.

What is a physical object? Does a physical object have to be something you can see, touch, feel, taste, or smell or can a physical object exist without one being able to confirm its existence? Is the sensory perception of a fly wrong just because it has over 1000 eyes or is the way humans view the world incorrect because we do not? A blind man can still help a person distinguish a colour because no one perception is ever totally interpreted by only one sensory organ. Many other animals on earth do not just rely on there sight for

Custom Essays on Perception

information about their world. For instance fish in totally dark areas of the ocean have no eyes and yet can still maneuver around in there environment by sensing ripples in their area with special sense organs on their body. Birds also seem to use the magnetic lines of the earth to navigate south for the winter each year. It would be foolish to make the statement that all sensory perception of the world is circumspect and is exactly the same for all creatures.

All animals on the planet earth live in a hermeneutic spiral meaning that we all live in the past. Humans, as with other animals, can only sense a cause after it has made an effect. The assumption is made that if we sense an effect there must therefore be a cause, which leads to a naïve realism of perception. As well, with sensory perception there is a large amount of extraneous information such as emotional and ideological that causes interference as to how we interpret the information received. This misinterpretation can happen from the time an action is made to the time when we seem to perceive the action. This can be seen for instance when at a baseball game the batter bats a home run and only after a second or two you hear the crack of the bat on the ball. This can be explained because the speed of light which allows you to see the batter hitting the ball is much faster than the speed of sound. Of course there is always the chance that our sense organs can deceive us. For instance when the moon is on the horizon is looks a lot bigger than when it is seen high up in the sky. As for humans all perception is relative to the surroundings because for instance at night humans can see objects like trees, stars, etc. better when we look at these things at a an angle with the corner of our eyes. During the day however things are seen better when looking straight at them, this phenomenon has been explained with the use of rods/cones in our eyes. Rods are sensitive to dim light and are important in black/white vision and the detection of motion and are primarily located toward the corners of the eyes hence their value in night vision. Cones are responsible for colour vision and for the perception of bright images.

The average person expresses what he believes is perception; referred to

as naïve realism

1. I live in a world of physical objects.

. I know this through sense perception.

. Physical objects exist independently of my perception.

4. My claims about their reality are usually correct.

5. Sense impressions are caused by the objects.

Sense perception all comes down to being able to exist in a world we know

nothing about and understanding that certain actions will achieve certain goals.

As long as these goals are achievable through what we believe to be reality than

nothing else really matters. Therefore, perception that allows one to exist in

a world of physical objects is all that a person wanting to exist really needs.

Huckleberry Finn Family Life

The main character in this story is Huckleberry Finn, Finn is a young boy with many problems going on in life. Huck was in need of a father figure more then any thing else in life. He needed someone to talk to about anything. Hucks Pap was never there for him except maybe to give him a tanning. Hucks Pap thought that he was trying to out do him, because he went to school. Youve put on considerable many frills since I been away. Ill take you down a peg before I get done with you. You think youre bettern your father, now dont you, because he cant? Ill take it out of you. Who told you you might meddle with such hifalutn foolishness, hey?-who told you you could Pap scolded (p,6). Huck didnt like having to wear nice clothes, or even going to school, but the he had to go. Starchy clothes-very. You think youre a good deal of a big-bug, dont you Pap asked (p,6)?

Huck would try and be a rebel because he had no male to tell him right from wrong. If Huck needed help the only real person that he could talk to would be Tom Sawyer, a very good friend also a thief, a rebel, and he lived on his own. Tom was not that great of a role model, for a young boy like Huck. His father was always away, and never there for him, and when he was around he was always drunk. It is hard enough to talk to a drunk man let alone when you have a problem and need advice. The childhood of a young boy is very crucial in what he will be like in his own life.

Huckleberry Finn was written to show young males that there are ways of finding someone. Mark Twain has a very unique perspective on the whole subject. He found a way to find love in a place where the reader would never imagine.

Custom writing service can write essays on Huckleberry Finn: Family Life

Hucks pap came and took him away from the widow and Huck thought that everything would be so much better, but no. The only good thing that came out of it was that he didnt have to go to school. His Pap locked him in the cabin whenever he went away, an if ever did anything wrong he would get a tanning (otherwise known as being spanked).

When a young boy is growing up being locked up all the time does not help a young boy to develop into a man. Young boys need a role model to look up to, and if the only role model around is a drunk then you will become a drunk. Huck would see his Pap so drunk and yell at him all the time.

Huck went to school just to spite the old man, but when his Pap found him, Huck sure did get a tanning. Huck would have to get money for his Pap just so that he wouldnt get a tanning. The influence of being abused and being around a drunk person is never the way to grow up. Huck couldnt take the abuse anymore, from being tanned, to being locked in a cabin for days. So he ran away, and planned to never return. Huck figured out a way to get away from his Pap, the widow and everyone else. Huck was gonna learn to raise himself and become his own role model.

Huck had a raft, supplies and his freedom. He felt as if his life could get a whole lot better if he got away from all the abuse. Huck traveled during the night and slept during the day. Thats how he found the runaway black man from Miss Watsons. Huck was resting during the day, and he found a camp fire that was freshly put out.

Then while Huck was trying to sleep he heard a noise and out popped Jim. Hello Jim, I said (p,55). Huck was so glad that Jim was now there with him.

Jim was a very good man that was just never understood, but Huck learned all about him on their voyages down the river. Huck and Jim were inseparable. They would talk about everything. The only thing that they really did that was a little bad was smoking tobacco. Jim understood why Huck ran away, because of his Pap always beating him. Jim knew what that was like, being a black person and all. This is the first time that Huck had ever had a male adult to talk to this way. With having a person of Jims intelligence Huck could learn a lot. Huck had someone to look up to, to learn from.

Jim and Huck got into some trouble when they thought that they were in Cairo and got separated. By this time Miss Watson had a two-hundred dollar reward out for him. Jim got captured and Huck was alone, again. Huck found out where Jim was and realized who lived there, and it was Tom Sawyers aunt. This was the best news that he heard because Tom was suppose to being coming out for a visit and so Huck became Tom, and Tom became Sid. Together Huck and Tom rescued Jim. Huck was so afraid that he was going to lose Jim, but when Huck was just a black man. Huck actually had an adult that liked him and wanted to help.

Huckleberry Finn is a classic story. It shows that Huck can find someone that he can depend on since his father never helped him. Jim became Hucks father in more then one way. Jim was a very good friend that Huck could talk to about anything. Jim cared so much about Huck, that when Jim was left behind he would miss him so. When Jim was being held captive Huck would do anything to get him freed. Jim and Huck had a very special bond. They could never be separated ever again.

Huck was in need of a father figure and Twain was the author who brought it all to together. Twain used characterization to bring the elements of the literature to life. From Jim being black, and Huck thinking that his father could ever be there for him. Twain gives Huck chances to have Tom Sawyer to be his father figure, but Huck chose Jim. Huck didnt seem to care that Jim was black he still cared about him still the same way as if he were white. Jim would look out for Huck, and Huck would look out for Jim. If Huck had not cared about Jim he would be back in slavery, and would never have found someone to be his father figure.

In Everett at precisely 45 pm, kids are let out of school, most are late for 00 pm activities. Many schools across the county are changing the times in which school starts and ends. Changing theses times means that students lives are being alter without any say in it. The school board members shouldnt be the only ones deciding what times school starts and ends. The school board should take into consideration the lives of the students who attend the school, not guess upon their own judgment. Schools must start earlier!

First of all, having practices right after school leaves parents stressed. Some parents must take their kids to practice every day. Some times practices are far away and need more time to get to, which leaves parents pressed for time. Other times parents are working and cant even get off work till 0 pm and by then practice has already started. And in some cases you can be kicked out of activities if you are late. To put it simply, starting school later messes up parents schedules!

Last but not least, since school starts later, parents try to schedule activities later. If kids are let out of school at 00 pm activites are probably at 0 pm, leaving time to get to the activity or practice. If the activity were three hours long (which in some cases it is) then the child would be done just in time for dinner at 60 pm. After dinner, at 70 pm the child finally starts their homework. Doing homework could take up to four hours and that you mean that the child would be up till 110 pm finishing homework. Just being on this schedule for a day would burn anybody out, but then kids have to get up and do it all over again. Doing so would leave kids tired and weary. Maybe even some would fall asleep in class from the late night study periods.
