The Canterbury Tales offer many characters whose vocation does not match his or her tale. This often provides humor and provokes much thought. Yet Chaucer makes the parson match his tale. This provokes a more serious train of thought. Thus Chaucer shows forth his brilliance in his versatility of subject matter.

The first thing one should notice in the Parsons tale is that the Parson refuses to tell a fable. In lines 0-6, the Parson gives his reasoning for a straightforward prose. He will not tell a story mixed with chaff and wheat. Rather, he chooses to tell a tale in nonfiction prose so all can understand with clarity. His object is not so much to tell an impressive story but to show forth what he deems important.

Second, he speaks in a respectable medieval manner by calling upon authorities. Whereas the wife of Bath says she will not reference authorities, he does so unashamedly. He references the Biblical figures Matthew, Jeremiah, Solomon, David, Jesus, Job, Hezekiah, Ezekiel, Peter, Jeremiah, Moses, Isaiah, Micah, John, Joseph, Paul, Zechariah, and Luke. In addition he refers to scholars and saints such as Ambrose, Isidore, Gregory, Augustine, Chrysostom, Bernard, Seneca, Basil, Damasus, and Galen. As Augustine has been the most influential person in Church history, Augustine is the most quoted authority he uses.

Moreover, he includes a lengthy discussion on mortal and venial sins. He exemplifies many ways one may fall into one of the seven deadly sins. Such offenses include birth control as murder and nocturnal emission as adultery. He also gives guidelines how to prevent those sins. He offers hope to the penitent by setting forth the prescribed method of reconciliation ordained by Holy Church. He takes his duty as a Christian seriously. He wishes none to suffer or perish but to serve God and Holy Church.

Thus, the Chaucer creates a character altogether appealing to the medieval mind. He exemplifies the medieval ideals better than the other characters in The Canterbury Tales. By making the perfect character, Chuacer amplifies the humor of the other characters shortcomings. This shows forth Chaucers versatility in writing.

Race and racism are two different words, have two different meanings, but somehow work together to prove a point. The problem is even though they begin with the same letters the meanings behind each can be harmful if used in the wrong context. What some people believe to be true is actually what they were brought up to know as the truth. As I think about this subject I will try to look at both views and see ignorance and intolerance, as well as objective views and outlooks. Let’s say 100 years ago there was slavery. The black people were indentured servants to the white. In 00 this is arguably not to be tolerated here in the U.S. Other Cultures still live like this, I feel sad that girls are sold for a families well being. In some cultures girls are given to townies and do hard labor plus they are sexually abused and assaulted. These girls can be 8- years old and get paid 0 to 60 dollars in a South African culture. This amount is for one years work. Think about our culture girls go to school and are educated. There are equal rights for men and women. America really has is going on if you think about it.

Race is a group whether you are black, white, orange, and yellow, green, whatever. Some people will simply hate a group because they are different. Is this right? No of course not, but some people are raised to hate due to the way they are raised. I feel we are all equal. What really makes one person better than the other? Well for one thing going to school with different races you get to see how people interact with each other. You can tell by comments who is a true friend because they like you for who you are, not what you can or cannot do for them. We live in a society that has a big mixture of races. I like to think that I get to know a person before I judge them.

Racism is where you single out a group whether it is for color, religion or even status in our society. In America we are taught to believe that united we stand and divided we fall. This is true because a group of people versus one person has strength, courage and bonding. I believe we can overcome racism but it has to start with a simple reminder that humans are just that. We are not aliens or dogs or just fabric on a flagpole. We have feelings and we make mistakes. This is what we should be teaching our kids. I think people who are racist are not American. They have no right to pledge allegiance to a flag that stands for the biggest mixing pot in the world. People came to America to be free and live a life worth living. We are taught English as a first language and expect to be spoken to in a non-violent way. Unfortunately this is my theory and not the way the world really is. On MTV alone the violence and the way that black people are portrayed are gangsters with attitudes and hootchie mamas on their arms. Gold chains dripping of their necks and language that even my mom would not tolerate. White people in most videos are not behaving in the same manner. So does this make the white people superior? No, just viewed in a different group.

When I think of a ghetto or the projects I think of a black society, when really there are Mexicans, Whites, blacks and other ethnic groups there. I have friends of different nationalities and color. I play baseball and we are a group working as one. Once I come off the field sometimes I feel as though the group is gone and I am alone. Everyone goes back to their own group of friends and personalities. This is how I would explain the Monolistic and Pluralistic societies.

Write my Essay on My views on Raceism for me

To overcome our differences we must treat each other on a level playing field. Sure one person will always be funnier, prettier, younger, older, more educated, etc. But this does not give anyone of them the right to be unfair and treat me or anybody else with disrespect. I’m not saying we all have to be friends and love each other, just be nice and act like the person next to you really is human and has feelings.

There will also always be various levels of educated people and societies that live among only there own. As a whole we should all try to be one group that stands together in triumph and tragedy and work together to be a sane and more equal group of Americans

Emotional Speech Analysis William Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar” is a well-written stage play. Shakespeare included many good speeches in his plays; one of the best was the one delivered by Antony. Antony’s speech came very shortly after Julius Caesar’s death, and the city was in much chaos. The crowd had just heard Brutus’s speech. Brutus was one of the murderers of Caesar. His speech appealed to ones emotions and used many rhetorical devices. Antony uses repetition to appeal to a common folk’s emotions. He repeats the words “Brutus is an honorable man”. The statement, however, was really being said with a sarcastic tone. Brutus is really not an honorable man. This restatement is emphasizing the importance of the sarcasm. The word honorable becomes a bad word by the end of his speech. This played directly on the emotion of patriotism and not to appear stupid. Another use of repetition and rhythm would be him describing Caesar as ambitious. He also turns the mean of ambitious around. In this case, however, he turns it from bad to good. His repetitive use of the statement kept a rhythm to his speech. This appealed to the emotion of appearing not foolish. This is a good emotion to appeal to, because one wants to always feel smart and educated and have an opinion on something. Antony also used rhetorical questions. The most prominent question was whether the people thought Caesar was truly ambitious. He was not expecting a reply when he would ask whether Caesar was ambitious. The emotion of appearing not to be foolish would probably best go along with this statement and rhetorical device. The people would probably just nod and agree, without thinking twice. Antony’s speech was filled with rhetorical devices affecting the emotions of one. His speech was directed to the common people of the city. His speech swayed the entire crowd from siding with Brutus to side with him. While Brutus’s speech used logic, Antony was able to convey his message better by appealing to the emotions.

Just as service activities have been major engines of national economic growth, so too have they become an increasing factor in international trade flows and economic interdependence. (Human Geography, pg.4) The political, economic and social map of the Bosnia and Herzegovina State was changed to a great extent by the war. The country is therefore in a period of transition, with programs of reform and reconstruction in progress. Before the war Bosnia and Herzegovina was a medium-developed industrial and agricultural state with about 1,000 industrial organizations. After the war it was left with economic output at less than 10 per cent of its previous record. The country is therefore currently under economic recovery, with the revival coming about through the combined efforts of the governments (Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska), the international financial institutions, international donors and foreign investment.

Economic infrastructure (power, roads, railways, telecommunications, water supply etc) has been reconstructed giving a possibility of economic recovery and realization of projects. The number of the unemployed is extremely high; therefore tax concessions are available for potential investors who are opening new working places in the country. New employment as well as market ambience and institutional and political frameworks for fast economic and social transition are all priorities of the reconstruction process in Bosnia and Herzegovina. http//www.linkexports.co.uk/countryprofiles/regions.asp?lsid=5

US Reaches Out to Bosnia and Herzegovina Companies

Cheap University Papers on US Trade with Bosnia & Herzegovina

By Violeta Kovaçeviç for Balkan Times in Banja Luka -- 0/05/0

The US Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) organized a series of presentations on programs the US government is sponsoring to support local economic development and co-operation between BiH companies and US. Led by Ambassador Clifford Bond, the delegation of US trade and commercial agencies began the US Commercial Outreach events in April.

The presentation held in Banja Luka on 4 April at the Republika Srpska (RS) Chamber of Commerce addressed companies from the greater Banja Luka region. The delegation discussed business development funds, preparation of feasibility studies, equity financing, business partnering, generalized system of preferential tariffs, environmental partnerships and trade lead facilitation. RS Prime Minister Malden Ivanic and BiH Ambassador to the United States Igor Davidovic attended the opening event.

Trade and business have always played an important role in bringing people together, said US diplomat Bond. He emphasized that the revival of BiH’s economy is an important factor in stabilizing this region.

Beryl Blecher, a commercial counselor with the US Commercial Service (CS) at the US embassy in BiH, explained her office’s role in facilitating economic co-operation between the two countries. CS offers a variety of sources for local companies seeking to establish contacts with US suppliers of equipment or services, such as registration in the BuyUSA.com database and CS-sponsored visits of delegations from local firms to major trade shows in the United States and Europe.

Jeanette Miller, director of business development for Southeast Europe at the US Trade and Development Agency, reported that the agency has invested more than $11m in feasibility studies and technical assistance to BiH since 17.

The Small Enterprise Assistance Fund, another US government-sponsored program, provides equity capital and technical assistance to small and medium enterprises with the goal of promoting sustainable economic development by encouraging business activity in transition economies. This program also provides marketing assistance to start-up businesses.

Harvey Lee, economic counselor at the US embassy, explained the system of preferential tariffs aimed at encouraging BiH exports to the United States. The generalized system of preferences program provides tariff breaks on BiH-produced products exported to the United States. The audience was particularly interested in this, as it provides the opportunity for local companies to place their products on US markets duty-free. (http//www.balkantimes.com/)

At the end of 00 and during 00 there are 7 countries in economic transition. Some of them are on the surface of the central and Eastern Europe. The report of transition that EBRD issued for year 00 was encouraging. Some of those 7 countries have improved their economic for ,5%. However, European union region countries have grown their economy for ,%. Less growth rate than in other countries in transition was resulted mainly because of floods that occurred during 00.

At the same time, countries of Southeast Europe, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, recorded the growth of ,5% in 00. The economy growth for 00 is expected to be 4%. This is a result of stabilization of political situation that offered more foreign investments. The rise of trade and export of goods is expected as well. Through a survey that shows the progress of transition, it has been proved that Bosnia and Herzegovina was one of the most active countries dealing with the same problem. Bosnia and Herzegovina was the strongest reformer in year 00. http//www.zivinicebih.com/bh/

Legal regulations defining the economic relations with foreign countries are compatible with regulations of the European countries.

The trade is largely liberalized. Import and export are free and, in some exceptions, there can be quantitative limitations in the protection of domestic market or protection of people, animals and environment.

Advantages of doing business with Bosnia and Herzegovina are

Before the war, as the name indicates, the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was a socialist state, nevertheless with an interventionism less strong than in communist countries. Of course, this was also so in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The main indicators of this policy were the small numbers of privately owned firms, the high degree of social re-distribution and the predominance of heavy industries, as in Zenica (BiH Steel) or in Mostar (Aluminji). Furthermore, in his desire to strengthen the unity of the whole country, Marshall Tito spread out the points of fabrication of consumer goods among the whole of Yugoslavia. Thus, to quote a Zastava car as an example, the chassis was manufactured here, the engine there, and the tires in a third republic of the country.

Another specific point was the existence of the so-called payment bureau, which collected all the bills and taxes from the citizens and paid part of this revenue directly to the Party.

But BiH remained a landlocked country, with no access to the sea, no highways, few railway lines and only two ports on the Sava River, Samac and Brcko.

Is that to say that economic and social situations are frozen and that there is no chance of improvement? Certainly not, for a lot of things have recently changed for the better. Of course, its always more difficult to go towards an unknown system than to come back to a previously well known one. During more than 50 years - about two generations -, citizens of this country only experienced war and communism, and sometimes both together. Such moves, however as normalization of the dismantling of payment bureau, Air Space co-ordination, privatization, and the march for joining the Council of Europe are many examples of the efforts of the common institutions to reach western standards.

The HR (High Representatives) himself adopted a new concept of ownership, which means the progressive withdrawal of the international community and more responsibilities for the state institutions.

Another positive point was the creation, in July 1, of the Stability Pact, which deals with all the countries of the Balkans through a regional approach. There is virtual unanimity, in southeastern European countries, that the way forward is integration into Europe.

The Lord the Flies

The Lord of the Flies by William Golding is a novel depicting the depravity of

all human beings. It follows a group of British boys on a journey from

Cheap University Papers on lord of the flies

civilization to savagery and the ultimate fight for survival. It explores

startling questions about human nature through symbolism. The dark side of

human nature is manifest in everyone. Only those who face the truth and are

completely honest with themselves can overcome that darkness.

The darkness is brought about by fear, cruelty, and deceit. Fear is first

introduced to island society by the littluns who speak of a beast from the water

and from the forest. This fear is multiplied and magnified tenfold as everyone

is drawn into this terror of the unknown. Though the older boys know that there

is no beast because they have explored the island and found nothing, they choose

to deceive themselves and succumb to fear, to darkness. Cruelty is the most

physical of the dark traits and even Ralph has an abundance of it. The boys

unite through common cruelty, from the teasing of Piggy to the killing of pigs.

Cruelty exists in moderation in most people and society usually does not allow

it to develop. In these unusual circumstances however, Roger and Jack reach new

heights of violence towards others. The darkness becomes a formidable force on

the island as those who oppose it are subdued or killed, and the truth

concealed.

It is possible to overcome the darkness by seeing the truth and accepting only

complete honesty towards oneself. Simon, after his conversation with the Lord

of the Flies, becomes a bearer of truth. He is the only child who understands

what the beast is. In carrying this knowledge, he is murdered by the masses, by

those who are possessed by the darkness. He is a sacrifice for the cause of

shedding light in the dark because it allows Ralph to find conviction in

himself. This force of cruelty and deceit subconsciously manifests itself in

the children, and they fall victims of the darkness by killing Simon. After

Simon’s murder, only Ralph is willing to face the events of that night. Piggy

calls it an accident while Jack tries to explain it away by claiming Simon was

the beast in disguise. Jack, while in self-denial, is also perpetrating an

effective scheme to maintain power over the tribe. An event of this magnitude

had the potential to topple Jack’s leadership but instead he turns it to his

advantage, by telling lies. Simon’s murder allows Jack to emphasize the danger

of the beast and therefore the necessity to hunt and give offerings to appease

it. Though not having as clear an understanding as Simon, Ralph makes the

sacrifice worthwhile for he, from this point forth, can never be completely

submerged in the darkness.

Piggy’s death is further symbolic of the necessity for seeing the world clearly

in order to overcome the darkness. The reason Piggy and Ralph confront the

tribe at the time which leads to Piggy’s death is because Jack steals the

glasses in order to make fire. The glasses and their utility represent

civilization and intelligence. Furthermore, though it physically helps Piggy

see clearly, it symbolically is the force behind Ralph’s progressive ideas.

Piggy, the advisor behind Ralph’s leadership, gives Ralph a broader and clearer

perspective. It is in this manner that Ralph is able to make good decisions for

the people. Piggy is murdered by Roger on a sadistic whim and Piggy’s

intelligence embodied by the glasses are perverted to serve the savages. The

tribe uses the glasses to make fire the fire that will soon consume the entire

island in the hunt for Ralph. Though Piggy dies, his influence and his ability

to see the truth continue in Ralph. Completely alone, Ralph is able to draw on

Piggy’s insight and hold on to civilization for strength. Ralph, being the only

remaining person on the island who is willing to face the truth, has to be

eliminated. The glasses, though turned from their original purpose of

maintaining civilization, still retain some of its virtue. The fire the tribe

starts to smoke out Ralph using those glasses also serves to save his life; thus

enabling him to survive the darkness of the island society.

The group of little boys on the island is a microcosm of human society. The

appearance of the naval officer at the end of the novel draws a parallel between

the war waged in the adult world and the boys’ isolated existence. It shows

that even in “civilized” society, darkness permeates human interactions, be it

between countries or countrymen. Only the truth will prevail over the darkness

of human nature.

Problems in the Workplace

The issue began years ago, in the Human Resources department, when two new human resource directors were hired. Before this time, we had a HR assistant who had been doing the job for the most part, by herself. She was basically considered the “Human resources department “. She was responsible for all of the hiring; advertising and doing the interviews along with the paperwork that came with all of these duties. Yet, because she had been doing the work for such a long period of time, like anyone else she had fell into a comfort zone. She knew how she liked things to operate and her style slowly began to shadow over the face of human resources.

After laboring the bulk of the responsibilities of running the department, the company finally completed the hiring process and brought on two new Human Resource directors, to help assist the company, in its development and growth. Though for the HR assistant, it meant gaining two new bosses and having to face the possibility of having to adapt to the new styles of the directors. Not only that, but also running the risk of having a conflict in interest. Even though, it could have been seen as a great opportunity to learn new things and receiving the chance to help create a good team atmosphere. The HR assistant looked at it as, someone coming in and taking that attention away from her. She allowed selfishness to influence her attitude her and outlook on the whole situation. Leaving a taste of bitterness in her mouth, without truly giving the opportunity a chance.

Now since the assistant had been there for such a good period of time, she became very proficient in her work and had a tremendous amount of knowledge to how things worked in the department. Therefore, it was her job to train the HR directors, in order to help them to understand her responsibilities. Obviously, so that they could obtain a better perspective of how the process worked at their new company, so then they could analyze and figure out how to make things better. Even more so, it would allow them the capability of being able to help make the assistant’s job easier. Once again, instead of embracing the opportunity of sharing the information, to encourage great things for the future of the company. She felt that, “though they are my bosses, I know more then them. Therefore, they need me more then I need them.” (G. Hidalgo, personal interview, August 0, 000).

Do my essay on Problems in the workplace CHEAP !

So as time went on, the directors naturally began to seek out new ideas to try and improve the company. Due to the respect that they had for the assistant’s time with the company, the directors felt that it was their obligation to include her. Since they valued her opinion, the directors would often ask her opinion on new ideas and they even suggested things that could help make her job less stressful. But every time her bosses approached her with new ideas or a improved way of doing things, they seemed to always get the same responses. “No, that isn’t going to work” (S. Dore, personal interview, August 18, 00). This continued to go on up until this present time. Up till now instead of feeling like a team environment, the HR assistant began to become a thorn in the directors’ side. The directors felt that, as long as the assistant was with the company, the company would not be able to grow. They then found themselves in a jam, feeling that she had not done anything wrong for the cause of getting fired, more or less just being a difficult person to work with. Even talking to her about problems became an issue, because the assistant displayed a case of extreme sensitivity through being quick to cry, whenever being constructively criticized. Knowing this, the directors didn’t know how to approach the dilemma; as a result they opted to just do nothing. Which is a problem within itself. Consequently, the problem we are facing at this time is, a HR assistant who is allowing her stubbornness to keep herself from trying new ideas and coming out of her comfort zone, because of the dire need of attention that she received off of doing more work then what was necessary. Also, we have two HR directors who feel suppressed by the assistant. In which this feeling of suppression, was not enabling them the break to help the corporation develop. More importantly, the directors did not posses the heart to go in and discuss these issues, with there subordinate.

Recently, the new annual raises came out and to the associate’s dismay; she did not feel that her raise was not a reflection of her work performance. For that reason, she decided to put in for a higher raise. After reviewing everything, the company decided not to grant the assistant’s request for a raise. This act forced the HR assistant, to put in her two weeks notice after 8 years of service. Despite the fact that she put in her two weeks notice, the plan was not to truly quit, but to hopefully get the company to reconsider her request. Yet in still, the company did not budge, in fact the directors felt as though it would be sad to see someone with that kind of experience go. It meant the arrival of that breath of fresh air, almost like waking up and stretching out in the morning (G. Hidalgo, personal interview, August 18, 00). The assistant tried to reconsider, but she had ultimately backed herself into a corner. Because once she put in her offer, the company began interviewing for her position and within those two weeks had given an interviewer an offer. At that point, staying with the company was a lost cause.

Methods

Sample

I read an electronic article, from the University of Phoenix’s library, the Seven Steps For Effective Problem Solving, including going over the mindtools.com website to view possible decision making techniques. I also conducted a few interviews with current employees that are with the company.

Results

I gathered from my interviews, that the HR assistant lost out on a great job and possible career. Due to the fact that, she allowed the forces of stubbornness and selfishness to influence her to not change her way of thinking and to making critical choices. Learning that she grew up accustomed to having that attention, may have helped in developing those feelings of the need to always feeling appreciated and focused upon. She was a lone child, in which she was raised with receiving a lot of attention from her parents. Included, the directors seemed to be influenced by the forces of intimidation. They appeared to be intimidated by the assistant’s knowledge of the work and her long tenure with the company. So, instead of assuming the role of the assistant’s bosses and handling the situation through communication, they chose to take a back seat to there co-worker. Both influences, allowed a small situation turn into a bigger situation. In turn, the company lost a person that could have been vital to the companies’ success and the directors lost out on an opportunity to handling the situation and becoming better directors.

Discussion

Both the HR assistant and the directors possessed two different styles of working. While the assistant seemed to have a conservative style, the directors displayed more of a creative style. As a result, the two apparently began to conflict with one another. Although, it is often true that different ways of doing things may conflict with each other, the opposite is also true. Different styles can work together and generate an abundance of success. You can accomplish this by keeping an open-mind, communication, and compromise. As an individual, you have to understand that, there is more then one way to accomplish a job and allowing yourself the opportunity to listen to new ideas can help in completing that job efficiently. Through communication, we can identify issues and express our own, in which would help in leading to solving the issues. Most importantly, when working in an environment where people contain multiple styles, it is important to be able to compromise. Through compromising, we can find the best method to success, whether it is from choosing from one style or combining them. Regardless, the objective is to get things done with the least amount of problems. Working with others can sometimes pose for some frustration and hard work, but by thinking unselfishly, communication, keeping an open-mind, and compromising, getting through the difficulties can become much easier.

Sir Francis Bacon

“Knowledge is Power,” said Francis Bacon. Sir Francis Bacon’s quote could be considered a key factor in the Renaissance thought and a theme to his lifetime accomplishments. Bacon, the scientist, philosopher, and author, his interest in the idea of materialism was intrigued by discoveries made by Italian scientists Galileo and Copernicus.

Born in London to a poor family in 1561, Sir Francis Bacon always found money hard to come by. At the age of 1 he enrolled at Trinity College, Cambridge. He studied law and in 158 became a barrister. In 1584 he joined Parliament’s House of Commons; that same year his political advancement was repressed by Queen Elizabeth I due to his opposition of her tax program. In 160 Bacon was knighted under the rule of James I, throughout the following years many other positions became available to him, in 1604 he was pronounced Solicitor General, Attorney General in 161, and then in 1618 he became Lord Chancellor. Between 157 and 165 Bacon worked on his Essays and in 1605 his first book, The Advancement of Learning, was published; in 160 he published his philosophical work Novum Organium. In 161 after being evicted from office, Bacon spent the rest of his life in retirement, where he later passed away in 166. He is buried at St. Michael’s Church in Hertfordshire, England. Three years after his death his final book, The Works, was published.

During his lifetime, Sir Francis Bacon was insistent of breaking away from the ancient beliefs of science. Including Galileo, Bacon was known as an “Anti-Aristotelian who created scientific views of nature.”

We, the people of Massachusetts, are in an uprising. I think that this upheaval is very necessary, and I support it to the fullest. Shay’s Rebellion is a crisis that has occurred in Massachusetts that should enhance the support of the Nationalists’ cause. This rebellion is the result of excessive land taxation, high legal costs, and economic depression that came after the American Revolution. As citizens of Massachusetts and America, we must think of solutions to the problems that we are facing today.

Years have passed and the American Revolutionary War is over. True enough, the war may be over but like always where one problem ends, another begins. The merchants and wealthy people who loaned money to the states now want their money back. They are forcing the bankrupt states to pass high taxes in order to collect the money to pay off the debts. Legislators here in Massachusetts have now passed the heaviest direct tax ever. The he tax has to be paid in specie, rather than paper money. Specie is far more scarce and worth much more than paper money. The insurgents are mainly poor farmers that are being threatened with loss of their property and imprisonment for debt. The rich are not affected by this tax much. They are the beneficiaries of this tax. I feel as though everyone should be treated equally. The amount of the tax should be based on how much land you own, and the legislators should accept whatever kind of money that the taxpayers have. This is only one of the injustices that people like me are being faced with. I strongly oppose the high land taxation along with the other unfairness that we are facing.

There are certain things in life that should cost very little or nothing at all. It is ridiculous when people have to pay to protect themselves. We are living in what is supposed to be a democratic republic. Legal costs are extremely expensive. We are supposed to be free and independent. It does not seem that way when we have to pay to be treated fairly and equally. We have forced courts to close, due to rejection of our petitions and public meetings. Because we are not focused as a people, we are divided. We will never again be content if we remain economically, politically, and socially divided and depressed.

Write my Essay on Shay's Rebellion for me

As a state, we are in economic depression. The citizens of Massachusetts have been hit with an incredible economic blow. We are in debt. No one group of people should have to deal with the consequences of the whole country’s mistakes. The whole country made the decision; therefore, the country as a whole should endure the consequences. During the war, prices were extremely high. Prices are extremely high. Inflation has reduced our ability to buy goods. The price of a bushel of corn has risen from less than a dollar to almost eighty dollars. This is bizarre and intolerable. I will not stand for it. This is a prime example of the causes and need for this rebellion.

I would personally like to thank Mr. Daniel Shays for taking the initiative to finally speak up and protest these ludicrous punishments that the citizens of Massachusetts are being faced with. We are not responsible for this war and its effects. It seems as though the legislators would like to make the impoverished states pay off their debts. It is simply inequitable and unbearable. We will not take these harsh punishments. This was the reason for cutting all of our ties with Britain. Who would think that after declaring independence from Britain, we’d have to declare independence from America. We are demanding protective legislation, the abolition of the court of common pleas, and a radical reduction of taxes. This must be done through a cooperative effort.

The University of Phoenix represents an institution full of academic resources. During my years at UOP, I intend to use those resources to obtain the necessary knowledge to succeed in my Management degree. One of its many benefits is that this institution gives me the ability to maintain my full time career and personal life as well. I have been in the Workforce Management industry for three years and my work experience is what triggered my interest in the degree of B.S. in Management from UOP. I intend to maintain a high academic record of achievement during my years in this reputable University, and I will use that academic record to achieve goals I have set for myself. As a privilege of my high academic achievement, I intend to enhance my managerial skills such as effective planning, organization and time management, while simultaneously furthering my character traits of leadership, dependability, and determination. I have learned throughout the years to apply myself in order to achieve the objectives I have set for myself and learn all the necessary skills to become a successful manager. A Bachelor of Science degree in Management from the University of Phoenix brings together skills and character traits that ensure my success in life.

The primary step I will use to achieve my personal goals as a University of Phoenix student is motivation. Without motivation one cannot accomplish anything in life. I am motivated to drive twice a week from Sanford to the East Orlando area to attend class and meet my study group.

My secondary objective is determination. I am determined to attend full time until I obtain my degree. I intend to stay focused the entire time I am attending University of Phoenix and by giving all my undivided attention to the class sessions and participating in class.

The third step I will use will be diligence. I will give 150 percent to be a successful student, even if that means sacrificing the little pleasures in life such as watching too much TV. I will work hard by trading those not so important hobbies to more important ones pertaining to my future like reading and writing while blooming into a visionary manager.

Do my essay on Personal Goals as a UOP Student CHEAP !

My last and most important objective is commitment. I am committed to meet with the study group at least once a week no matter what other things might come up in my professional or personal life. I am committed to being working on the assignments in a timely manner in order to be able to turn them all in at one time.

I am also committed to overcoming any challenges (i.e. exhaustion from working full time, dedicating time to my family, fighting traffic and driving 0 miles to school) that might keep me from being a successful student at University of Phoenix. Another challenge I am willing to conquer is fear of public speaking. I have been avoiding speech and math all my life. However, math is a whole another paper. In order for me to become a successful manager, I have to be able to effectively speak in front of an audience. I intend to use this fear of public speaking as an opportunity to grow into a fully successful manager and possibly a successful orator. I challenge myself to excel in my presentations and teamwork.

As a University of Phoenix student, I will embrace the college experience. College is not just about attending classes and study groups. Being a college student entails developing many skills that allow an promising individual to juggle daily commitments with a focused mind at all times while succeeding at each task at hand. It is necessary to demonstrate the ability to perform under pressure and practice excellent time-management skills and self-discipline while learning new subject matters. The most exciting part about being a University of Phoenix student while simultaneously a professional is that I have a wonderful opportunity to apply knowledge gained in the classroom and from my peers to my daily professional tasks. This is how true learning occurs and I am grateful for the opportunity presented to me.

As a University of Phoenix student, I will apply my organizational skills, research skills and technical knowledge toward obtaining and excelling my degree, in each classroom and each group session. I am determined, motivated, will apply my resourcefulness and thoroughness to achieve what I have committed myself to. I will use the four steps above combined with my work experience and the knowledge I will gain from my instructors and fellow students here at University of Phoenix to become a brilliant student and evolve into a successful manager in life.

I wrote down a number of things I wanted to accomplish during this next stage of my

education. After much thought and deliberation, I narrowed the list to three goals that I

am personally committed to achieve as a student expertise in my chosen field of study,

the ability to communicate that expertise, and expanding my network of acquaintances.

I earned my Associate of Science Degree in Information Technology at

the ITT- Technical Institute. Then wanted to continue in this field by taking the Bachelor

of Science in Information Technology at the University of Phoenix. Information

Technology is very interesting to me. So I decided to stick to IT field. Listening to

lectures in class, also spending considerable time in the lab, networking computer

together and seeing how it all comes together was enjoyable . I believe any motivated

student can earn good grades by doing the course work, asking questions and reading the

material. Plus Enjoy the subject your studying. But I want to do more than just simply

earn good grades. I wanted to learn everything that I can about Information Technology

like the business and technology side in this field. I want my peers and instructor to

recognize me as an IT professional.

Hand in hand with this goal of being recognized as an expert in

my chosen field is my second goal. The ability to efficiently communicate with my

instructors, peers, and clients by improving my oral communication skills and becoming

more confident when working on project and speaking efficiently to teams members.

Communicate regularly well with both my IT professionals and non-technical coworkers,

managers, and clients. I believe I already have excellent communication skills, my

objective in this case is to further improve upon those skills, specifically in the oral

presentation. I think the only way to improve this ability and gain confidence is through

repetition; I need to prepare extensively and volunteer to be one of the first speakers for

presentation projects.

The third goal I set for myself is to make a conscious effort to meet people

and make as many friends in my career as I can. I want to develop my communication

skills now and continue to use them throughout the next stage of my career. One

inadequacy I know I have is that I am slow to make friends; it normally takes me months

of knowing someone before I feel comfortable about talking openly.

Going to school, becoming a student and working full time is discouraging

But having a goal of gaining and exhibiting expertise it gives me something to focus on.

The goal of meeting more people, learning and stepping out of my comfort zone does

make me more well rounded person because of it, and that knowledge goes a long way to

help me with my future. I believe I have set myself three attainable and realistic goals.

Borderline Personality Disorder is considered a personality disorder by DSM-IV, or, as first described as by Schmideberg in 15, as a disorder of character. The name comes from the observation that Borderline Personality Disorder people have natures on the border between neurosis and psychosis. However, this is a misnomer for now psychiatrists do not believe that there is an underlying psychosis anymore. Simply put to have Borderline Personality disorder is to simply be emotionally unstable. Going into more detail, it is characterized mainly by a tendency to act impulsively without consideration of the consequences, a lack of ability to plan, and instability with interpersonal relationships, self-image, and thinking patterns. It is estimated that people with Borderline Personality Disorder makes up % of the general population, 10% of all mental health outpatients, and 0% of psychiatric inpatients. 75% of those diagnosed are women and 75% have been physically or sexually abused.

When diagnosing Borderline Personality Disorder, psychiatrists look for five or move of the following symptoms as determined by the DSM

Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment. [Not including suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5].

A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation

Identity disturbance markedly and persistently unstable self-image of sense of self

Acts impulsively in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (Examples sex, substance abuse, reckless driving) [not including suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5]

Recurrent suicidal behaviors, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behavior

Affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (Examples irritability, or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days)

Chronic feelings of emptiness

Inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger (Examples frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights)

Transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms

Treatment for the disorder is restricted to limited amounts of psychotherapy and medication to help with emotions. Psychotherapy is used to help those inflicted with Borderline to learn to set limits. Unfortunately, only a few of them are sufficiently motivated to persist with long-term psychotherapy. Some of their emotional instability can be so dangerous as to make long-term psychotherapy impossible. Antipsychotic, antidepressant, and antianxiety drugs are the only medications used for treatment, and are usually used to control the person with the disorder’s anger, anxiety, and/or depression that may occur.

The person in the case study was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder in 174, but she did not learn of it until 14. After learning about her diagnosis, she started seeing a therapist for a short while before it was too expensive, too long, and useless. She says she is not sure if the therapist knew how to treat Borderline Personality Disorder. Therefore, she started reading many books, and using the knowledge gained from them to adjust her life. Some of her symptoms include having multiple boyfriends at the same time and drinking too much all while cutting words into her arm and with the blood write the same words onto walls. She becomes panicky “…when [she] loses my car in a parking lot, loses [her] husband at a flea market, or learn that a good friend is going on vacation. [She gets] a sick feeling when someone close arrives late, or when [she is supposed] to be somewhere and arrive late. The same panicky feeling comes when [her] plans fall through…” It is impossible for her to form friendships. She sees things as either all good or all bad. There is no gray area so to speak with her. She experiences feeling of emptiness. She is very quick to anger. This is what she experiences with Borderline Personality Disorder, and it disrupts her ability to function in society enough that she gets Social Security.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for Borderline Personality Disorder. If those afflicted have therapy for many years, the most that could happen is that they learn how to function in society and how to manage their emotions.

I. Title Tucket’s Home

Author Gary Paulsen

II. Important Characters

Francis Tucket Francis was the main character. He was trying to find his family that he got lost from many years earlier. He had a rifle, which he never lets out of his sight.

Billy & Lottie Billy and Lottie lost both of their parents to a disease. First their mom and then Francis found them when they lost their dad and they have been friends since.

III. Summary

This story is about a boy who is trying to find his long, lost parents. Along the way, he finds two kids name Lottie and Billy, who also lost their parents to a disease. Lottie and Billy are now helping Francis to find his parents and his way home.

In the story, Francis was watching a herd of buffalo waiting for Lottie and Billy to get ready for breakfast. Lottie was watching the horse graze and Billy was making a bow and arrows he learned how to make from the Indians. A little later, they went to shoot a buffalo for food. Once Francis was about to shoot, all the buffalo started to drop. Someone else was shooting the buffalo.

After the shooting was over, the people that were shooting came out and so did Francis to meet them. The man’s name was Bentley from England. That night, Bentley asked them to stay for dinner; they were having buffalo tongue. Francis said they have to move on. Lottie wanted to stay. She didn’t want the tongue, but she though Bentley talked pretty. Francis had a feeling that Bentley would get into a lot of trouble.

The next night, he spotted Bentley’s campsite. Francis was watching him from a bush the whole night. He then saw a shadow that should not be there and soon there was more and before you knew it, Bentley and his gang were all dead. The Indians chopped them to pieces.

Francis could not believe it, but he had to move fast before the Indians found them. He woke Billy and Lottie up and rode away. They went on for days and days and one day they met their old friend Grimes who had save them from the Comancheros, an Indian Tribe. There was a big cloud of dust coming their way and they knew it was the Indians. Grimes told them to go through a hidden passage in the mountains. Francis didn’t want to go but left anyway.

Halfway to the mountain, they turned back. When they got there, all the Indians were dead and Grimes was badly hurt. After a few minutes, he couldn’t handle the pain and was dead.

That night while Billy and Lottie were sleeping, Francis was sitting by the fire thinking about Grimes when all of the sudden Grimes came over and sat next to him. When Francis saw him, he jumped and knows it was a ghost. Grimes said to him “It is all right.” Grimes then stood up and walked away. Francis didn’t know what that meant. He told Billy and Lottie the next morning.

That day they met a man named Orson and his friends. Francis went with them until they came to an Indian village that had a funny language, but they learned some of it. The Indians told them the river they were going to go down would wreck their ships. Francis, Lottie, and Billy traveled on, passing every town asking around if they knew where the Tuckets’ lived. One day, they came to a farm and Francis was home.

IV. Evaluation and Favorite Part

I liked this book because it is a cool adventure. I like how the characters are kids and can do almost anything. Even though they are kids, they know how to live on their own and hunt and look out for Indians.

My favorite part is when Francis finds his home because his dad does not recognize him at first. When he does recognize him, he cannot believe it. Lottie and Billy also get a home because they got to live with Francis’ neighbor, a lady who lived over the hill from Francis’ house.

Newts. Witches’ spells. Love charms. Flying broomsticks and cauldrons. Halloween. It’s amazing how many stereotypes still exist about magic and witchcraft. We are living in a time when a tremendous amount of knowledge is available to the average person, and yet there still exist a great deal of misconception about, and even intolerance of, Magic. The reason why I chose Magic as my topic was because I have always had an interest in all things magical. However, when I first began researching this topic I came to realize that my views on magic were very narrow and stereotypical. I believe that through researching this topic thoroughly I have reached a better understanding on the world of magic.

The craft of magic making is an ancient one, woven into every facet of life to ensure survival. It is not just the rabbit in the hat illusion as we so casually view it. In our modern society, however, we have no need to fight for our lives or to ask the elements to help us find food and water. But because of the progress in material terms, our ancient connection with the land and the natural elements has diminished. The loss of contact with the natural elements means we have also lost contact with an immensely important part of ourselves, and consequently we behave as if we are separate from that other world beyond the veil, the world of spirit.

Some form of belief in witchcraft and magic exists in all lands, from earliest times to present day. The art of spell making, or witchcraft, is a very powerful and beautiful way to reconnect with this other life that runs parallel with our own outer realities. However, as with all things, it must be approached with reverence and respect, otherwise it can lead to all manner of problems.

Magic is created through intent of thought. The mind or intellect is the most powerful facility we possess. Therefore everything in our outer reality is a direct reflection on our inner thought processes, we are constantly creating our own realities, both consciously and subconsciously. It teaches that we in fact are our thoughts and what we think defines how we live and who we are.

Cheap Custom Essays on Magic

Today’s culture has quite an interest about magic and witchcraft. It is proven by how many books and films that have recently been released are about magic. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Hocus Pocus and Charmed are just to name a very select few, so I had no problems finding research material on my topic.

There has always been a mystery about magic and until now, magic was always a taboo subject. There were times, in the medieval ages when chaos broke loose and hundreds of thousands of people (mainly women) were being accused of witchcraft and sentenced to death. Even though the play, ‘The Crucible’ was fictional, the way witchcraft was perceived in Salem was completely factual. If any of those women behaved like how they did, today’s society would label them insane. However, their lies and pretend fits paved they way for the witch hysteria that came about in Salem.

Because of extensive religious propaganda dating from the late Middle Ages, Magic has often been linked to Satanism. Magic beliefs and practices are no closer to Satanism than they are to Buddhism, Hinduism, or Islam. In fact, practitioners of magic do not recognize the existence of an all-evil supernatural being similar to the quasi-deity Satan. He is found mainly in Christianity and Islam.

It is also important to realize that some conservative Christians consider all non-Judeo-Christian religions to be Satanic. They believe that when followers of these religions worship their Gods and Goddesses, they are really worshipping Satan and/or his demons. For this reason, they consider Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Wicca, and hundreds of other religions to be either Satanism or inspired by Satan.

My ideas on magic have changed dramatically since I first began this topic. Like many others, I pictured magic as witches flying around on broomsticks or leprechauns watching over their pot of gold. I have since come to realize that real magic is more hidden and even your next-door neigbour could be a practicing witch or wizard. Witches come in all shapes and sizes and the majority don’t proclaim their faith from their rooftops. Magic should not be feared of anymore but to be respected and celebrated.
