The war of 114-118 seriously changed the direction of architecture and architectural thought in various ways. There were three factors that had changed to effect this. "The material conseqeunces of the war, the psychological and moral consequences and the artistic experiments and theories which came of age during the war years." PG8 BENEVOLO

Before the war there had been serious problems about the accommodation of civilians due to the dramatic rise in population however with the destruction and devastation of countless buildings the condition got worse and there was urgent need for re-development and re-housing. Architectural clientele became more involved with town planning rather than with individual housing.

The problems were felt all over Europe but more so in the defeated countries Austria and Germany where old politics had also been overturned. This political change brought with it an attitude for cultural change and progress. After the economic depression that these countries experienced after the war, the old classes mixed with each other and together they kicked the old habits of social hierarchy in order to achieve innovation and advancement. These were the main countries thought to be the protagonists of the Modern Movement.

"The full consciousness of my responsibility in advancing ideas based on my own reflections only came home to me as a result of the war, in which these theoretical premises first took definite shape. After that violent interruption, which kept me and my fellow architects, from work for four years, every thinking man felt the necessity for an intellectual change of front. Each in his own particular sphere of activity aspired to help in bridging the disastrous gulf between reality and idealism." Walter Gropious PG8 BEN

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways

Writing can be an expression of one's innermost feelings and a great way to release emotions from one's heart and soul. A sonnet, a fourteen-lined poem and a formal arrangement of rhymes, gives an author a way of self expression. Elizabeth Moulton Barrett Browning's Sonnet 4 from "Sonnets from the Portuguese" is a great example of how a poet releases emotions through writing. Even though love cannot be measured in numbers, Elizabeth uses this sonnet to try to express the depth of her love for Robert Browning. Romance is one of the most popular themes of poetry. Love can inspire the most soulful and sorrowful of words because of the intensity of the emotion.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning's "Sonnets from the Portuguese" first appeared in an 1850 collection. The title came from her husband's pet name for her, "Portuguese." "Sonnets from the Portuguese" describe the intense emotions Elizabeth has for Robert, even though she feels somewhat undeserving of his love. Elizabeth had to keep her feelings to herself for so many years and this poetry allowed her some release. Sonnet 4 of the "Sonnets from the Portuguese" is one of Elizabeths most famous poems. Elizabeth finds it difficult to put one kind of measurement or barrier on how much she loves Robert. It is a never ending, infinite love. This love contains every emotion imaginable and grows constantly, even beyond her time here on Earth.

Sonnet 4 is written in Petrarchan (Italian) sonnet form. The sonnet consists of fourteen lines written in iambic pentameter. The Italian or Petrarchan sonnet is composed of an octave (eight lines) with the rhyme scheme abbaabba, followed by a sestet (six lines) in which the rhyme scheme is cdcdcd. The last six lines can also be cdecde. The octave presents the question "How do I love thee?" and makes a proposition "Let me count the ways." The sestet resolves the tension created by the octave by generalizing, answering or applying the proposition (she will love him after they die).

By use of metaphors, the audience learns that Elizabeth compares her depth of love for Robert to such things as a soldier fighting for freedom. Poetically, Elizabeth says, I love thee freely, as men strive for Right/I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise. Her love for Robert is relentless and with great purpose. She believes in true love having no limits, the heart and soul having no restraints, not even death. Elizabeth also alludes to the fact that we must always strive to fight for our love and keep it strong. We must not take love for granted. Elizabeth associates romantic love with common decency and virtues. This is important in her writing because it shows the passion that Elizabeth has in her heart.

Elizabeth lets the reader picture the vastness of her love for Robert through imagery. She uses such words as "life," "death," "sun," and "candlelight" to show her love for Robert. Life and death describe how she will love Robert on earth and after they die. Sun and candlelight are used to make the reader think of how she will love Robert during the day and at night. By using those words, she conveys her love of Robert through imagery.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning was born on March 6, 1806 in Durham, England. She was the oldest of twelve children of an autocratic father. Elizabeth began writing at a very young age, publishing her first works while in her teens. From an early age, Elizabeth suffered a chronic lung ailment. She spent most of her time in a darkened room writing poetry and many letters. The famous English poet Robert Browning admired her Poems (1844) so much that he wrote to her. They fell in love through their letters and secretly married in 1846, despite her father's objections. Soon after their marriage, they ran away to Florence, Italy, where Elizabeth began a remarkable physical recovery. In 184, they had a son, Robert Wiedeman Barrett Browning. She increasingly took up contemporary issues including the Italian Nationalist cause, the abolition of slavery in the United States, and the position of women in Victorian society. Elizabeth died on June , 1861.

Truth and illusion is key to this plays understanding. It starts as a play focusing on two couples failing marriages and the intensity of their relationships between each other as well as the audience. However, as the story progresses, the alcohol flows and the tension increases, it becomes clear that truth and illusion play a deeper and more complex part.

The first example of this is simply shown in the illusion of George and Martha's marriage and later Nick and Honey's. Their relationship can hardly be described as a marriage but more of a perpetual contest and power struggle

'If you and your…wife …want to go at each other, like a couple of…

… animals,'

Name calling 'muckmouth', insults 'YOU SATANIC BITCH!' and sarcasm 'sweetie', all feature in their fight for survival in their own illusion. Both characters seem to thrive off this, or the power that they gain when ahead of the other.

We also discover that the seemingly perfect marriage of the young couple Honey and Nick also has deeper scenarios then first thought. This truth or the break down of the illusion is brought about by George's probing questions 'Tell me about your wife's money.' Again it is a loveless marriage fuelled by money and Honey's 'hysterical' pregnancies. These self-terminating pregnancies, deceiving both herself and Nick show the unbalanced nature of Honey but also that she uses the illusion of appendicitis, a 'false alarm', to protect herself from being pregnant or having a child. Honey needs this illusion so she can continue to be childless, she is terrified at the start of the play of a life without this illusion, of a life with a child

"I…don't…want…any…children. I'm afraid! I don't want

to be hurt."

However, by the end, when she is drunk and the pressure is high she confesses hysterically that she wants a child, 'I want a child!' She is tired of a life with illusion, she is probably scared by the unhappiness of George and Martha and the example of how their illusions have damaged them.

The clearest and most significant illusion that arises in the play is the illusion of Martha and George's son. The fantasy or game world that they have created for themselves in the form of having a child is resurfaced throughout the play. Albee has created these illusions for the characters of George and Martha to use it as a weapon against each other in their power struggle. With guests present it is used as threat to intentionally hurt each other, 'he's not completely sure it's his own kid.' Through the years they have concocted a whole imaginary life for an imaginary son. The audience only find out the truth at the end of the play when George breaks the news of their sons death to Martha in such an unfeeling and flippant way that the whole farce is seen to be another of their illusions or games 'Now pull your self together. Our son is Dead!' This illusion is comparable to the games played between the characters, for example 'Humiliate the Host'; they both have rules and are used as a device to gain power. However, where Martha controlled that game, this illusion shows how the power has shifted from character to character. The major difference between the games and the illusion is that the game is based around truth, the game unravels the illusion, for example 'bringing up baby' and 'Get the Guests'.

The language that Martha and George use when describing the death of their son exemplifies the fact that the son is just an illusion, made up by them at the start to try and save their marriage

"I'M RUNNING THIS SHOW!"

And

"YOU CAN'T KILL HIM! YOU CAN'T HAVE HIM DIE!

The hysteria that Martha displays when George decides to end the illusion upholds the argument that Albee's characters are afraid of a life without illusion. They have come to rely upon it, employ it so much in their everyday lives that it has actually become real to them, they have forgotten how to live without the game. The breakdown of Martha also shows how powerful the game was, whoever made up the rules was in control. George won the power in the relationship by changing the rules of the game and ending the illusion. Martha at the end of the play becomes childlike and George takes on a fatherly role 'All right. Time for bed.'

However, with the ending of the illusion, George gains power, he is not afraid of a life without illusion but thrives on it, he becomes free and the dominant one in the relationship. Not all Albee's characters are afraid of a life without illusion.

Indeed, Nick is the first character to recognise the problems that the games and the confusing difference between truth and illusion cause in the play 'Hell I don't know when you people are lying or what.' The audience identifies with Nick, as they are in the same state of confusion, not understanding where the play is going and not knowing what to believe and what not. George answers this question on Albee's behalf with ' You're not supposed to.'

There are many other illusions in the play that are not only there to allude the characters but also the audience. Honey seems to be the typical feminine wife, stemming from her descriptive name, her girly giggle and her slim hipped, frail figure. A dumb blonde who turns out to be able to speak Latin in return to George's Latin requiem over the death of his and Martha's illusion 'Et lux perpetua luceat eis.' This changes the illusion. It exemplifies that the illusions about the characters the audience started with do not last the whole play. The audience has allusions to Martha's power, the intelligence of Honey, and Nick's intentions with furthering his career, he is not as good and innocent as first thought ' I'd just better get her off in a corner and mount her like a god-damn dog, eh?'

Albee uses illusion in the play for many reasons. The audience are constantly assuming and then reassuming concerning the characters. As well as the unrelenting intensity between the characters this leads to a play where the audience is kept guessing to whom has the mental power, who is making the rules and is it all just an illusion in the end. The play concerns itself with one night where four characters lose their fear of a life without illusion and face up to their own separate truths.

Being that we are the third rock from the sun, we constantly are interacting with its' atmosphere and weather. Meteorology plays a constant role in our everyday lifestyle. It affects us as individuals also businesses such as agriculture as well as travel. It is important to understand the fundamentals of how this meteorology system works.

First of we all know that the sun gives out heat. Along with the heat the sun also sends out energy in the form as solar radiation. Solar radiation can pass through space and the gases in the atmosphere. Solar energy heats anything that it hits. Energy cannot be made or destroyed, but it can change from one form to another. Energy is either potential energy, (stored energy) or kinetic energy, (movement energy). The sun is very hot and emits solar radiation. The energy from solar radiation can be changed to heat energy as in solar heating, electrical energy using a photovoltaic cell as in solar cars, and to chemical energy by photosynthesis in green plants (http//www.sustainableenergy.qld.edu.au/html/what.html).

There is a popular misconception that the seasons on the Earth are caused by varying distances of the Earth from the Sun on its elliptical orbit. This is not correct. One way to see that this reasoning may be in error is to note that the seasons are out of phase in the Northern and Southern hemispheres when it is Summer in the North it is Winter in the South. The primary cause of the seasons is the .5 degree of the Earths rotation axis with respect to the plane of the ecliptic, This means that as the Earth goes around its orbit the Northern hemisphere is at various times oriented more toward and more away from the Sun, and likewise for the Southern hemisphere (http//csep10.phys.utk.edu/astr161/lect/time/seasons.html).

Air pressure and fronts define arctic atmospheric circulation patterns. Air pressure is a measure of the force exerted by air on all objects. Air pressure is related to temperature. Given equal volumes, warm air is lighter (less dense) than cold air and consequently exerts less pressure Changes in air pressure often signify weather changes. Rising air pressure usually means fair weather, whereas falling air pressure generally signals stormy weather. This is because a drop in air pressure often indicates that a cyclone, or low pressure system, is moving into an area, bringing clouds and precipitation. A rise in air pressure frequently means that an anticyclone, or high pressure system is moving into an area, bringing fair weather. A change in air pressure signals the advance or passage of a front. Fronts are the narrow transition-zone boundaries separating two air masses of contrasting properties (temperature and humidity). Low pressure systems often develop along frontal boundaries and cloud cover and precipitation often occurs in the vicinity of fronts.Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air and can be described in different ways, including relative humidity, which is the term used most often in weather information meant for the public. Relative humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air compared with the amount of vapor needed to make the air saturated at the airs current temperature. Humidity is a measure of the amount of water vapor in the air, not the total amount of vapor and liquid. For clouds to form, and rain to start, the air does have to reach 100% relative humidity, but only where the clouds are forming or where the rain is coming from. This normally happens when the air rises and cools. Often, rain will be falling from clouds where the humidity is 100% into air with a lower humidity. Some water from the rain evaporates into the air its falling through, increasing the humidity, but usually not enough to bring the humidity up to 100% (http//nsidc.org/arcticmet/factors/pressure.html).

The earth's atmosphere is interesting. The Earth is surrounded by a blanket of air which we call the atmosphere. It reaches over 560 kilometers (48 miles) from the surface of the Earth, so we are only able to see what occurs fairly close to the ground. Early attempts at studying the nature of the atmosphere used clues from the weather, the beautiful multi-colored sunsets and sunrises, and the twinkling of stars. With the use of sensitive instruments from space, we are able to get a better view of the functioning of our atmosphere. Everything one earth is supported by the atmosphere, solar energy, and our plaent's magnetic field. The atmosphere absorbs the energy from the Sun, recycles water and other chemicals, and works with the electrical and magnetic forces to provide a moderate climate. The atmosphere also protects us from high-energy radiation and the frigid vacuum of space. The envelope of gas surrounding the Earth changes from the ground up. Four distinct layers have been identified using thermal characteristics (temperature changes), chemical composition, movement, and density (http//liftoff.msfc.nasa.gov/academy/space/atmosphere.html).

A meteorologist job is try to predict what the weather will be. They use all kinds of equipment to come up with this data. Hundreds of thousands of pieces of data are collected every day from weather stations, radiosondes, satellites, and observers. To process this amount of information requires ever more powerful computers to perform the millions of calculations per second needed to model and predict the worlds ever changing weather. The mathematics of weather forecasting are very complex. Surprisingly, most information about the weather is collected by small automated land-based weather stations around the world. This has, to a large extent, replaced networks of observers around the country. Often these weather stations are similar to one you might find in a home or school garden. They are housed in a Stevenson screen or box which shelters the measuring instruments from direct sunlight and rain, whilst allowing air to flow freely. Some are still visited by observers who copy the information down by hand. One helpful devise is satellite. Satellite-derived data helps improve the accuracy of weather forecasts. The information and pictures we can get help us to understand how weather works. They also help us to anticipate weather events better for example, hurricane warnings (http//www.bbc.co.uk/weather/features/basics_fronts.shtml.

The pattern of a weather system is not consistent because the weather is constantly changing. Air masses and accompanying fronts do not remain stationary for long. Although their movements are never exactly the same, they do exhibit some patterns that help meteorologists and others predict the weather. The boundary between two air masses is called a front. As a result, moving fronts indicate a change in the weather. On a weather map fronts are drawn where there is a large change in temperature and a shift in wind direction. A front can also be described as the boundary between adjacent Highs with different conditions

(http//vathena.arc.nasa.gov/curric/weather/hsweathr/patterns.html).

In conclusion, understanding the earth and its atmosphere is very important for the future of this planet. It is critical that we as individuals in society start taking care of this planet by reducing pollution and recycling so that the next generation can live in a healthy environment.

CONCLUSION

A Monohybrid cross is a cross between one trait in which one is dominant and recessive. The parents of the Drosophila melanogaster offspring were of the First Filial Generation, and were Heterozygous Dominant. In the cross, the red-eyed trait is dominant over the recessive sepia-eyed trait, and results in a 1 phenotypic ratio of red-eyed flies to sepia-eyed as shown in the Punnett square. This cross agrees with Mendel's Law of Dominance.

A Dihybrid cross is a cross between two traits. The parents of the Drosophila melanogaster offspring were Heterozygous dominant. In the cross, red-eyes and normal wings are dominant over the sepia-eyes and vestigial wings, and results in a 1 ratio of red-eyes/normal wings to red-eyes/vestigial wings to sepia-eyes/normal wings to sepia-eyes/vestigial wings. The dihybrid cross agrees with Mendel's Law of Independent Assortment, where each allele of any one pair is free to combine with any allele from each of the remaining pairs during the formation of the gametes

Most chromosome pairs consist of homologous or identical partners. One pair of chromosomes, which noticeably differ from one another are called the sex chromosomes. They are called the sex chromosome because they determine the differences between males and females. Genes located on the sex chromosomes show different patterns of inheritance than genes located on other chromosomes. With Drosophila melanogaster, the red or white eye color is a sex-linked trait. The trait for eye color is carried on the X chromosome, and therefore the sex-linked cross violates Mendel's Law of Independent Assortment. The phenotypic ratio for a sex-linked cross is a 1111 ratio, where the amount of red and white-eyed flies is equal.

A true Veteran Artists

The artist that I have chosen for this assignment is Jesse Treviño. He is a San Antonio based artists that is known for his photo-realistic paintings. He is also "internationally known for his realistic images of San Antonio landmarks and his family and friends from the Westside neighborhood" ( EyeonArt 1). What influenced me to write about Jesse Treviño was that he draws about what goes on around him. His life for example plays a big role in impacting how his paintings end up. When you view his paintings, it is easy to become aware of the facial expressions that he paints. The facial expressions seems to capture the struggles and glories of the people he is painting about. Even though, Mr. Treviño's paintings seem to follow the common Mexican struggles, in reality his paintings are showing the struggles of all types of people.

In order to understand or appreciate a painting we must first learn about the artist intentions in creating the artwork. The painting that I'm focusing on is Jesse Treviño's, 'Los Piscadores' which was drawn in 185. I chose this painting not only for its great artistic features but also because it captures so much emotion and life in this painting. The painting shows two persons in a big green field picking cotton. Before we get into the significance of the painting I would like to talk about the artist Jesse Treviño.

Jesse Treviño's life began in Monterey, Mexico in 146. By the early 150's his family migrated into the United States. San Antonio was the town that would exert influence upon Mr. Treviño paintings. At the young age of six Jesse won his first art contest. When he graduated from Fox Technical High School he "won a scholarship to attend the Art Students League in New York, where he studied under portrait artist William Duper" writes Salas Abel (1). But he only attended school for a short time as his life took a bad turn; as he had to decline a scholarship to study arts in Paris when he was drafted by Uncle Sam to fight in the Vietnam War. Instead of avoiding the Vietnam war and going back to his native country Mexico, he chose to fight in Vietnam. One reason he chose to go to war was because his brothers also had served in the military. Soon after entering the war he was gun downed in battle and was severely injured. Doctor's did there best but were unable to save his right artistic hand. Quoting from Treviño "I remember lying in the rice paddy bleeding and thinking I wouldn't be able to paint again because my [right] hand was gone" said Treviño (Brown ). Unfortunately, his long lived dream to be and artist appeared to have terminated.Rehabilitation wasn't easy for Mr. Treviño, as it took him two years just to recover from his injuries. His temptation to draw once again awakened his spirit, and "with the help and support of the staff of San Antonio College, Our lady of the Lake University, and the University of Texas in San Antonio, he learned to paint with his left hand" adds Treviño (1). Everyone may grow up with a dream, yet many are quick to change their minds once obstacles are placed in front of them. But, for Mr. Treviño there was nothing that was going to stop him from reaching his goal. Even if it proposed going back to school and learning how to draw with his left hand. Now he's a well established artist who has the Gods given ability to capture the pains and struggles in paintings. That's just what he happens to achieve in the painting 'Los Piscadores', he captures the exhausting facial expression of an old man picking cotton.

'Los Piscadores' seem to shed light on farm pickers who struggle just to survive. This painting shows the sorrow and painful nature of an old man working to stay alive. The drawing is trying to point out the behavior of how farm pickers usually live there entire lives picking and having little to show for. Pickers usually work ten to twelve hour shifts and get paid about fifty to a hundred dollars a month. Something like that makes you think by what means could someone live in happiness when they know that their entire life is going to be spent working. An average man sleeps a third of his live, leaving only sixteen hours to enjoy, when you have to work twelve hours you only have a few hours left before you go to sleep. When you think about it, what is left for a man/woman en route for life able to do? How would a picker feel when he realizes that he's not going anywhere anytime soon? In this case Mr. Treviño happens to capture the right look and attitude of a man who knows his career is only a survival one. That's the purpose of not seeing the old man smiling in this drawing.

In the other hand we have a young boy, with the biggest smile in life. The purpose of the young kid smiling is too show the difference between a young inexperienced kid and the old experienced man. The difference between the two are the smiling faces, for the older man there's no sign of happiness but for the kid everything is great at that young curiosity age. The young kid is happy to work in the big green fields, nothing seems better at that moment. But, what seems great in helping out in the fields, may not be good in the long run. A young kid doesn't know the hard work and physical capabilities you need to endure picking cotton in a day to day basis.

When you look at a painting its hard to think about how much time or what kind of work did it take to make this artwork. Doing this paper made me realize what kind of effort was put forth into this painting. Not only does 'Los Piscadores' seem much more appreciable but all of Mr. Treviño's paintings. When I researched the painting the main thing that caught my eye was that he drew this painting after he had loss his right arm. Not only was that amazing, but to learn how he had to start all over with his left hand was unbelievable. Making 'Los Piscadores' much more special to write about. Mr. Treviño does a great job in drawing the photo realistic painting of 'Los Piscadores', capturing all the facial details of the young boy and the old man. Leaving you to think of why is it that one is smiling and one is not so happy.

Language and Signs

Language has been, is now and will continue to be an important and essential thing in society. Language is the set of rules and norms by which we abide in order to communicate. Without it we would not be able to communicate, express ourselves, or even give or convey information. It is what sets us apart from the animals; it is the primary object of philosophy and humanities. Language consists not only of truths but lies, myths, and ideologies, which Ferdinand de Saussure and Roland Barthes both believe play important parts when it comes to explaining linguistic signs.

Saussure starts off talking about the label theory, which says that signs are just labels, attached to things. That language is just a list of words each identical to the thing that it names, just like a noun. Saussure opposes this saying that how would you explain pronouns and adjective and verbs which are also part of our language. He also says that this would mean that the ideas existed before the words did and then no one knows whether a name is expressed or psychological in nature. For example if you take the stop sign which is a red and white octagon. To people that drive in America they know this means you have to come to a complete standstill at the stop line. However if you come from a culture without roads or where they have another language this red and white octagon is going to mean nothing to you.

Saussure also believes that the structure of the linguistic sign can be split two different ways the first being into the signifier and signified. The signifier is the carrier or the manner of the concept. It is what the object actually is. The signified is the concept or a manner of understanding something. Take for instance a photograph. The signifier is the photo itself, for example a picture of your parents. The signified however is the form and content of the picture of your parents. The second form Saussure thinks the linguistic sign can be broken into is conventional and arbitrary. Conventional meaning the language is socially agreed upon by users and arbitrary meaning not necessary.

Write your Language and Signs research paper

Lastly Saussure believes that the mutability or changes of language are mostly brought upon by social, historical and cultural evolution. Therefore that is one of the reasons it is so important. With all these new changes we need to language to describe it. Without this language we would not be able to keep communicating with others and advancing in life.

Instead of breaking the structure of the linguistic sign into the conventional and arbitrary, Roland Barthes breaks it into the denotation and connotation. Denotation, which is the literal meaning and connotation, which is the added meaning. An example of this is an engagement ring. An engagement ring is literally a piece of jewelry with a diamond that is worn around the finger. However the connotation of an engagement ring is love and commitment.

One main difference between the writings of Saussure and Barthes is Barthes speaks a lot of ideologies and myths. An ideology is a set of assumed beliefs or ideas that have no been contrasted to assess their truth-value. A myth is an idea presented as truthful yet does not have fact to back it up. A myth is also a type of speech. Myths and ideologies are presented in the forms of ordinary signs that might be interpreted as truthful. They are not eternal because if they were they would be true. However myths are historically and socially constructed at a certain moment with certain intentions. This is how myths and ideologies differ from the truth because the truth is ideas that have been proven and contrasted with reality.

Myths take the literal appearance of a sign and use it to further a different meaning. Barthes shows this with the example of the black soldier saluting the French flag. The signifier of this is exactly what appears on the magazine cover a young black soldier saluting a French flag but the signified of this is to show that imperialism was good because even other races accepted and respected it. Mythical intentions easily manipulate signs, it is almost like promoting an idea through a sign.

Saussure and Barthes both have similar ideas when it comes to language. It is obvious that a word has to be agreed upon even if it is a private language. If it is not agreed upon by at least two people then it is not a language it is just noise. It is most obvious however after reading the essays by Saussure and Barthes that they feel language and signs are essential in society and almost impossible to live without.

Hawaii , just that word is enough to give you all the images that you need to fulfill your desires. But having only these thoughts will not give you the experience of the breathtaking views, shimmering waters, beautiful beaches, unforgettable nights and the recreational adventures. "It is a paradise not just for newly weds as many may think, but it's also for singles families, kids and elders as well"(Patel).

Many people do not know how Hawaii and its people came about on this island. "According to archeologists, the earliest settlers who sailed to Hawaii on their seaworthy double canoes are believed to have come from the Marquesas Islands of Eastern Polynesia. They arrived between 500 and 800 A.D." (Hawaiian's ). Hawaii was made from a water volcano that later became a beautiful island that many people go to see and have fun there. "The first Polynesians migrated from Southeast Asia as a seafaring people, who spread over an area of the globe larger than that covered by any other people until the 18th and 1th centuries, when Europeans began exploring various parts of the then known world"(Hawaiian's). Hawaii is not just a place for Hawaiian people; many people have come and going from Hawaii. I see Hawaii to be a place that is full of religious and cultural people. Many people do not know this, but Hawaii once had its own "monarchial system that was led by a queen"(Hawaiian's). This just shows that people who study the history of Hawaii should know that even women had the power to led a country in those times. Later as many years passed by, "Hawaii became part of America."(Hawaiian's). "American government went from Provisional to Republic, from republic to Territorial to Statehood in 15"(Hawaiian's). This quote here shows the Hawaiians become what they are today, "Engulfed in a new sea, the Hawaiian now set sail, on the merits of his rich Polynesian heritage and with new leaning, on a journey for the preservation of his life"(Hawaiian's). Hawaii is like a paradise, that when found, people know that it is different then any other place that they have seen. I see the Hawaiian Islands to be a place where every thing seems to be untouched and unspoiled by any human being.

The Hawaiian Islands have so many fun activities to do. The most important reason why people go to Hawaii is, because of its beautiful beaches, but that not it. They have horse-back riding, snorkeling, sailing, surfing and many other activities"( site # ). "The islands are like heaven, because they have everything a person needs to fulfill their dreams"(Patel). If I were to go to Hawaii I would start off by going on a Helicopter ride around the island just to capture its beauty and to have in mind all the things that there is it see and do in Hawaii. One of the most beautiful things Hawaii has is it water falls. "The Manoa Falls takes in beautiful views, colorful trees, flowers, and glimpses of native bird life"(book #). "Hawaii is full of volcanoes, hillsides, and water. Once you get back home you can share every moment of it with your friends and loved ones, after having your breath taken away. There are even tours that you can take on horses. The tour will take you on a "path that menders through lush jungle trail along the hillside; through streams and rivers; and on to ancient Hawaiian villages"(site # 1). To my this sounds like it is surrounded by beautiful seenore, and wonderful animals. "The trail ride begins on the valley floor and last about ½ hours"(site # ). This all seems fun, but when it comes to me, I would want to go snorkeling and surfing. To me snorkeling seem a lot of fun and excitement, and "the best time to go snorkeling or diving is early in the day and this activity is one of the most popular water sports activities on the big island"(site # ).Hawaii is one of the world most famous places for surfing. "Woody Brown is 88 and lives in Maui, Hawaii where he surfs every chance he gets and he has been doing this since the early 10's. If I know how to Surfing I would probably pick Hawaii has my first place to surf. Hawaii is probably know for its awesome beaches and crystal clear water too. There water is so clean that now they even have a submarine tour. "There is only one real submarine on the big island, Atlantis Submarine, and a lot of people love this activity because they can see it all without getting wet or messing up their hair"(site#1). Hawaii is also a fun place to relax and get a tan. I did not believe someone could really get dark in the sun until I saw my Cousin Imran when He came back from Hawaii with his wife. There is so much to do in Hawaii, but not a lot of time to get to it all. People have to know what they want to do and have to have it all booked ahead of time to get the best deals on everything. After having a great day you can relax on the "Polynesian Dinner Cruise which sets sail at 515 p.m. every day for a memorable evening of dining and Polynesian entertainment on Kona's original sunset dinner cruise"(site #1). The snorkeling, sailing, surfing and sight seeing all seems fun, but when the sun goes down the people come out to have some more fun.

The night life in Hawaii is almost as wild as Cancun. "In Hawaii the night life begins at sunset, when all eyes turn westward to see how the day will end"(book #). People in Hawaii fortunate to have an environment that encourages the cultural ritual"(book #). People all around the world know about the holla dancing and the torch-lighting ceremony. "The night starts off earlier with a picnic basket and walk along the Oceanside path way for many people"(book #). I could live my whole life in Hawaii with my wife. Every night Hawaii always has something going on. "The Waikiki's beachfront bars also offer many possibilities, form the Royal Hawaiian Hotel Mai Tai Bar, a few feet from the sand"(booK#). It is my dream to one day set on the beaches of Hawaii and share a drink with my wife. There is this one place were; "Halokulani and it happens to make the best mai tai in the world and this place has the after dinner hours with light jazz played by local artists"(book#). Last but not lest the "Fiasco's is a place for local and visitors, alike to come to this restaurant and club for a quick meal and after work partying"(book#4). When I go to Hawaii I am definitely going to this place just because of what it has to offer. "If you want a little country kick, come Tuesdays for line dancing"(book#4). I believe that to some people it is fun, but I am one of the wild people and I like to have fun all day and night. I fell that Hawaii is different then even other place and it is made to show how wonderful one place could be.

The Dead Poets Society takes place in 15, in the prestigious Welton Academy, a private boys school in Vermont. The boys that go there nicknamed it Hellton, because of the grim authority. It is a classic school, and looks very much like a castle. The school cheer, said in a grim voice, is "Tradition! Honor! Discipline! Excellence!", though the boys change it to "Travesty! Horror! Decadence! Excrement!". There are beautiful gardens and lawns. There are many patios decorated with flowers. There is a grand dinning hall, with many benches, which is where the boys meet for meals. There are dorms on the upper levels of the building, each shared by boys. It is beautiful, but not very inviting. The thing that appeals so much about this movie is that, though the scenery is simple, in its simplicity it is beautiful. The cramped library, a college student's house party, a large field, the houses in a wealthy neighborhood, all such regular sights, but they add so much to the movie, and the director did an excellent job of making sure that the movie was not overdone with rich details and distracting gaudiness.

In The Dead Poets Society, the main character, seventeen year old Neil Perry (played by Robert Sean Leonard) , is a very energetic person. He has dreams of leaving Welton, and becoming an actor. He attempts to do this by going to the neighboring school, and getting a part in their play, A Midsummer Nights Dream. He disregards his controlling father's demand for him to become a doctor, and against his father's will, he accepts the part, and does a splendid job of it. While his father begrudgingly allows him to act in the play, after it is finished, he withdraws Neil from Welton Academy, and plans to enroll him in military school the next morning. Neil feels the full force of the constriction that his father places on him, and finally cracks. That night, while his parents are asleep, he takes his father's gun and ends the irony and misery of his life in the study.

Neil Perry (Robert Sean Leonard), Todd Anderson (Ethan Hawke), Knox Overstreet (Josh Charles), Charlie Dalton (Gale Hansen), and Richard Cameron (Dylan Kussman) are all boys that go to Welton Academy, and all good friends. They led very controlled and calm lives, until a new teacher came to the school, Mr. John Keating (Robin Williams), an energetic young poetry professor. He inspires them all to think "outside the box", and teaches them how to think for themselves. His teaching customs are much abhorred by the school principal, but Keating pays no mind to the authoritarian school board. When the students try to find out Mr. Keating's past, the find that he was a member of the Dead Poets Society. The boys reincarnate the Society, and have a ball of a time, even though at the end of the movie they almost get caught.

Meanwhile, there is a small romance going on between Knox and a neighborhood girl, Kris, who is also attached to a burly football player. There is also Neil and his controlling father, and the family feud over whether Neil will act or not. Another part in the plot is Todd and his overpowering solemn shyness. The last plot that is mixed into this movie is the humorous class which Mr. Keating directs. The students are brought through various mental exercises to help them "find themselves". This movie has many different plots mixed together, which makes it very interesting.

Help with essay on The Dead Poet Society: Summary and Character Analysis

This movie, put together, shows us dangerous finding ourselves can be. The main - and obvious - example is when Neil decides that he has to be an actor, and refuses his fathers demand for him to become a doctor. He supports his beliefs in to the end, and when he finds that it is impossible to become an actor like he dreamed, he ends his misery by means of suicide. Another example, that is already completed by the time the story starts, is that the riotous Mr. Keating was once a subdued school boy. By acting on his nature of unchecked gaiety, he is fired and dispelled from the Academy. Also, Todd, quiet and shy at first, finds his voice in poetry. He is the happy ending in the story, for he comes out of his long-lived protective shell, and probably goes on to become a great poet.

Abstract

Hydra is a multicellular organism which feeds on other small multicellular organisms. The main source of food for hydra is brine shrimp, but they can still consume other organisms for food. The goal of this experiment is to determine if the amount of light in the environment of hydra will affect the feeding behavior of the hydra. It was hypothesized that a direct positive relationship would exist between the amounts of light and the feeding of the hydra (the more light, the more hydra would feed). To control the amounts of light, separate petree dishes were wrapped in varying layers of violet saran wrap and groups of hydra with food were observed in each dish.

The different groups of hydra studied in environments with different amounts consumed equal amounts of food within the period of 0 minutes. The results of this experiment indicated that no relationship exists between the amounts of light in the environment and the feeding behavior of hydra. This is due to the fact that the different amounts of light did not affect the amount of food consumed. From this observation, one can conclude that hydra do not depend on light when it comes to feeding.

Introduction

Cheap University Papers on Feeding Habits of Hydra

Hydra is a microscopic multicellular octopus-like organism which mainly feeds on brine shrimp (Muller-Parker, G., 18). The body of a hydra consists of three main parts, a gastrodermis layer on the inside of the body which contains digestive enzymes, a middle layer called the mesoglea, and an outer layer containing sensory, muscular, and stinging cells (Guild, N. and Bever, K., 00). These stinging cells are called nematocysts which are also on the tentacles and immobilize the hydra's prey. When small organisms brush against a tentacle one nematocyst can wrap around the prey while another can inject a toxin and immobilize the prey (Guild, N. and Bever, K., 00). In a previous experiment the interaction between hydra and daphnia (another microscopic multicellular organism) was observed (Guild, N. and Bever, K., 00). The hydra immediately attacked and consumed the daphnia with its tentacles. The size of the daphnia was equal to that of the hydra, making them easier to observe together. Due to this fact we decided to use daphnia as the food source in further observation of hydra's feeding behaviors.

The idea of varying the amount of light in the hydras environment to observe feeding habits came from an abstract article which was based on research. The authors used different layers of colored saran wrap to vary the amounts of light in the environment (Grosvenor, W., 18). This is the same technique used in this experiment to vary the amounts of light with 0, , 4, and 6 layers of violet saran wrap.

The purpose of this experiment is to determine if there is a relationship between the amount of light in an environment and the feeding behavior of hydra. The hypothesis is that as the amount of light increases, so will the amount of food consumed by hydra.

Materials and Methods

In order to perform this experiment we needed hydra, daphnia, petree dishes, colored saran wrap, and a microscope (Guild, N. and Bever, K., 00). The procedure we followed is as follows First, obtain four petree dishes. Wrap one with layers of colored saran wrap, a second with 4 layers, and a third with 6 layers. The fourth is a positive control with no restriction to the amount of light ( no saran wrap). Next, place 6 hydra and 1 daphnia in each dish with some water. Observe each dish for 0 minutes under a microscope and record the number of daphnia consumed in each dish within the 0 minutes.

Results

The four dishes with the varied amounts of light all showed similar results.

The hydra in the control dish without any saran wrap consumed the same amount of daphnia as the dish with layers and the dish with 6 layers. The dish with 4 layers only consumed 1 more hydra than the others, which was not a significant difference. The amount of time that it took for the first hydra to feed seemed to very at random.

As shown by the following graph, there is no noticeable relation between the amount of light and the number of daphnia consumed.

Discussion

The results indicate that there is no relationship between the amount of light in the environment and the feeding behavior in the hydra. Also, there is no relation to the amount of time it takes for the first hydra in a group to feed. It is very possible that the reason that the hydra do not depend on light to feed is because they do not use vision to consume their food. Instead they use the sense of touch. These results did not support the hypothesis of the experiment, as the amount of light increased, the number of daphnia consumed by the hydra did not increase. Although the hydra group in the dish with 4 layers of saran wrap did consume 1 more daphnia than the rest, this data seems insignificant.

Other similar experiments that test the same relationship between the amounts of light and the feeding behaviors, such as the one performed by Grosvner, W., also indicate that there is no relationship (Grosvenor, W., 18). This research adds to the credibility of the results of the current experiment due to the fact that the same theory was concluded, there is no relationship between the amount of light in an environment and the feeding behavior of hydra.

Although everything went right for the experiment, there seemed to be a problem. In relation to past experiments, the hydra did not seem as active and did not feed as quickly. Previous batches of hydra were stressed and did not feed, therefore it is possibly that the batch that was used could have also been partially stressed. This could have possibly effected the outcome of the experiment. Further testing of the relationship between hydra and amounts of light in the environment could be performed. For example, one could test a relationship between the budding of hydra and the amounts of light in the environment. When hydra bud they produce nitrogen in the surrounding atmosphere, this could be measured to observe the relationship (Muller-Parker, G., 18). Further investigations could be to study the effects of temperature or chemicals on the feeding habits of hydra.

Gelato is an Italian-style ice cream. Having been a witness to the Italian's "fissato" for ice cream, its impossible to imagine the Italian summer (and in fact any seasonspring, fall and winter) without gelato, oral air-conditioning, the only food that Italians will eat on the street. You can spot a great, artisanal gelateria by the crowd of contented locals digging little, spatulate, plastic spoons into paper cups full of this lightly frozen treat.

If ice cream is a phenomenon in such country as Italymay it be summer, spring, winter or fall.

For a fact the Italians have the most "vain" culture in the world. They are concerned with their beauty and looks but at the same time they still patronize their ice cream culture. As a result, they have developed such technique of creating an ice cream which is less creamy, less fattening, all-natural or in other words an ice cream one can binge on without guilt.

It does not have as much air as it, like ice creams in the market today, and so has a denser texture. Gelato contains 0% air by volume, compared to 60% in most commoditized brands, and contains only 8% butterfat versus 1% in typical ice cream. Like in the Philippines summer heat is fierce in the south of Italy, and it makes sense (both digestive and hygienic) that the Italians developed a formula that is lean, thickening the milk with corn or wheat starch, not yolks.

Moreover, there is no two gelateria or ice cream parlor that has the same flavor and tasteor the same recipe for that matter. This means that ice cream is not a commoditized food. Our ice cream will be primarily made in small batches giving attention to high quality ingredients which is the main problem in mass production and commoditized goods.

Borderline Personality Disorder is considered a personality disorder by DSM-IV, or, as first described as by Schmideberg in 15, as a disorder of character. The name comes from the observation that Borderline Personality Disorder people have natures on the border between neurosis and psychosis. However, this is a misnomer for now psychiatrists do not believe that there is an underlying psychosis anymore. Simply put to have Borderline Personality disorder is to simply be emotionally unstable. Going into more detail, it is characterized mainly by a tendency to act impulsively without consideration of the consequences, a lack of ability to plan, and instability with interpersonal relationships, self-image, and thinking patterns. It is estimated that people with Borderline Personality Disorder makes up % of the general population, 10% of all mental health outpatients, and 0% of psychiatric inpatients. 75% of those diagnosed are women and 75% have been physically or sexually abused.

When diagnosing Borderline Personality Disorder, psychiatrists look for five or move of the following symptoms as determined by the DSM

Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment. [Not including suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5].

A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation

Write my Essay on Borderline Personality Disorder for me

Identity disturbance markedly and persistently unstable self-image of sense of self

Acts impulsively in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (Examples sex, substance abuse, reckless driving) [not including suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5]

Recurrent suicidal behaviors, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behavior

Affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (Examples irritability, or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days)

Chronic feelings of emptiness

Inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger (Examples frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights)

Transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms

Treatment for the disorder is restricted to limited amounts of psychotherapy and medication to help with emotions. Psychotherapy is used to help those inflicted with Borderline to learn to set limits. Unfortunately, only a few of them are sufficiently motivated to persist with long-term psychotherapy. Some of their emotional instability can be so dangerous as to make long-term psychotherapy impossible. Antipsychotic, antidepressant, and antianxiety drugs are the only medications used for treatment, and are usually used to control the person with the disorder's anger, anxiety, and/or depression that may occur.

The person in the case study was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder in 174, but she did not learn of it until 14. After learning about her diagnosis, she started seeing a therapist for a short while before it was too expensive, too long, and useless. She says she is not sure if the therapist knew how to treat Borderline Personality Disorder. Therefore, she started reading many books, and using the knowledge gained from them to adjust her life. Some of her symptoms include having multiple boyfriends at the same time and drinking too much all while cutting words into her arm and with the blood write the same words onto walls. She becomes panicky "…when [she] loses my car in a parking lot, loses [her] husband at a flea market, or learn that a good friend is going on vacation. [She gets] a sick feeling when someone close arrives late, or when [she is supposed] to be somewhere and arrive late. The same panicky feeling comes when [her] plans fall through…" It is impossible for her to form friendships. She sees things as either all good or all bad. There is no gray area so to speak with her. She experiences feeling of emptiness. She is very quick to anger. This is what she experiences with Borderline Personality Disorder, and it disrupts her ability to function in society enough that she gets Social Security.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for Borderline Personality Disorder. If those afflicted have therapy for many years, the most that could happen is that they learn how to function in society and how to manage their emotions.

Edgar Schein defines organizational culture as "a pattern of basic assumptions-invented, discovered, or developed by a given group as it learns to cope with its problems of external adaptation and internal integration-that has worked well enough to be considered valid and therefore, to be taught to new members as the correct way to perceive, think, and feel in relation to those problems." (Miller ) To summarize a culture is simply everything that makes the organization exist. The people, the furniture, the building, the paper, the way people talk anything you can see or hear, shapes the culture of an organization. Furthermore, there are certain key elements that are present in most cultures. These elements are relevant constructs (people/ideas important to an org), practices/procedures, a vocabulary, metaphors (other names for the business), stories or legends, rites and rituals (i.e. graduation), values, heroes, and finally sub-cultures.

If I were to describe the culture of Marist College, I would begin by describing what I see and experience. Take one look at the Marist campus and you will see a unique learning environment. A tree lined campus dotted with new looking buildings over looking the Hudson River. In the middle of the campus, you see a modest round building with a large cross sprawling up the side, towering 10 feet over the top and embracing what seems to be the entire front of the building. Immediately one is under the impression that the campus embraces the catholic religion. Just beyond the church, you will see a brand new 4 floor modern library. The library is filled with brand new IBM computer workstations and shelf after shelf of books. Look in almost any of the buildings on campus and chances are you wont find and garbage, this is because the college pays for extensive "house cleaning" through out the campus. Another observation that can be made is the astonishing amount of computers on campus. Finally, one will notice the ethnicity of the students and faculty on campus. It is clear that the overwhelming majority on campus is Caucasian. If you were to look hard enough you might be able to find a few African Americans, or Hispanic students. The overall climate at Marist is a relaxed one. In general, the students and faculty appear to be in no hurry to get anywhere. The students and employees alike are seemingly friendly and egger to help a person in need. There are security patrols through out the campus to help ensure the safety of the students. I feel that Marist College in general makes a valiant effort to put on display those things they want others to feel are important to the College as a whole.

An important aspect of organizational culture is Schein's model of culture levels and their interactions within an organization. Schein divides different elements of culture into three levels. The first level is artifacts and creations. Artifacts and creations can be defined as anything visible or audible within an organization. The second level is titled values. Values are defined as those things that the organization states it hold dear to itself. The third and final level consists of basic assumptions. Basic assumptions are conclusions that can be drawn by comparing the artifacts and creations with the stated values of the organization. Just one question, what happens when an organization says it holds a value important and it really does not? There is a name for that phenomenon; we call it an espoused value. Espoused values are something Marist College has many of. Lets analyze one specific aspect of Marist College and apply Schein's model of organizational culture. Let begin with diversity, once again it is clear when you look around Marist College that there is little to no diversity amongst the student body or faculty. However, the mission statement of Marist College clearly states "The College aims to expose students to cultures other than their own and to the values that link and transcend particular cultures." Here we have an artifact, the lack of minorities on campus. We have a value, the mission statement. And we can make an assumption the assumption would be that Marist College values diversity and the exposure to other cultures. We can clearly see that this is an espoused value because the values and artifacts contradict each other. However, if Marist College was to be broken down in to many smaller pieces and each piece were to be analyzed one would realize that there are many different sub-cultures within the overall culture of Marist College. For instance if one were to walk into the Gymnasium you will see many people running, jumping, and participating in many different sports. In contrast, if you were to walk out if the gym and walk into the pool house you wont see anyone running. Yes it is because it is dangerous to run near the pool, but this is what sets the two rooms apart, this is what contributes to the different cultures within the one school we call Marist College. Similarly if a communication class were observed you would see many different people interacting and talking amongst themselves, perhaps with the teacher playing an equal role. On the other hand, if you were to observe a Mathematics class you will most likely see a teacher standing in front of an organized classroom with nobody except the professor talking. The students will most likely only speak when spoken to or after being called on by the professor. And, chances are there will be no discussion between the students.

In conclusion, we now have a clear understanding of culture and climate Within Marist College. We understand the functions of culture here on the campus. In addition, we know that not all values here on campus are held by everyone, different people have different values. It is important to point out a few key aspects of culture and values. First, organizations do not have values, individuals do. Second, individuals may say they hold a particular value but their behavior says otherwise. Finally, many of the values and basic assumptions within an organization have been taken for granted. People have been passing them off as "just the way we are" and "just the way we do things around here" people often do not realize that it is all part of their organizational culture.

Medical marijuana good or bad. Marijuana is a plant that grows in the ground and has high quantites of thc. The plant gets you high. Some people like to call marijuana trees. Marijuana does have some medical value. It relieves the feeling of nausia. Marijuan is know as a drug that has led kids to other drugs. Marijuana as a legal drug has helped patients feel better for a period of time. The drug marijuana is something Americans hear about everyday. Our society has been taught that marijuana is just as bad as heroine or cocaine. To some extent I agree with this concept. The only problem I have is that marijuana is not all bad.

Marijuana has been proven to help patients who have diseases such as cancer and glaucoma. It helps rheumatism and stomach problems. Some of these patients cannot be treated with commonly used drugs and treatments. They are then left without an alternative so many of them turn to marijuana. The problem with this is that marijuana is illegal in every state except for nine. If the state of Ohio were to legalize marijuana for medical purposes only, it would alleviate many peoples pain and concern. I propose that the state of Ohio pass a law stating that critically ill patients will not be prosecuted for using the illegal drug marijuana.

For example take Steve Mitchell from Garberville California. He had been properly diagnosed with testicular cancer in 11. The cancer spread and he became severely ill. The chemotherapy made him very sick, and he was vomiting constantly and had no appetite. He tried everything from Zofran a new drug, to Marino a synthetic THC drug and nothing worked. One day a co-worker of his asked his wife if they had tried marijuana yet, and she told him that the doctors had told him no because it was illegal. One evening that week the friend brought him a joint and he smoked it. Within a short amount of time he had immediate relief. He suddenly had an appetite again and when the nurse saw him she could not believe what she observed. She asked what brought on the miracle and they told her what he had done. She said that they would be kicked out of the hospital if anyone found out but she didnt tell and Steves cancer is now in remission.

This law has already been passed in California, Alaska, Colorado, Arizona, Oregon, Hawaii, Maine, Washington and Nevada. The law would entail very detailed restrictions and regulations. The first step would be to have all patients and caretakers register with the state. After a person is registered he/she would then be given an identification card. This would take care of any confusion that might occur with the law-enforcement. In order to acquire one of these cards a doctor must prescribe marijuana.

The next step would be to restrict the amount of marijuana a person may possess. In other states people who have a card are allowed to grow their own marijuana. In my law I propose that marijuana be grown in state run greenhouses. This would be a way to prevent people from abusing their privileges of being able to have marijuana. The greenhouses would be located in major cities all around Ohio. Toledo, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland. These cities are the biggest and all of them easy to locate. A person who would go to these greenhouses would be allowed to purchase more than one mature marijuana plant. Each plant should cost $100. The money generated from these greenhouses could go back into the state fund.

Someone who violates his/her privileges of being able to purchase medical marijuana should be punished the same as people who get charged with illegal possession of marijuana. The rate of people who abuse medical marijuana is very low. The people who obtain this marijuana really do need it and will not sell it for recreational purposes.

Many organizations support the legalizing of marijuana for medical purposes only. Some of them include American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Student Association, and the American Preventive Medical Association.

If you think that marijuana is bad for all people, evens severely ill patients then think back to Steve. Think about how his life was improved just by simply using a forbidden drug. He would not have had to break a law in order to feel better. That is wrong and unjust. Patients who are severely ill should be able to use a medication that is declared safe by a doctor in order to make them feel normal again. Ohio should legalize marijuana for medical purposes and make a difference in peoples lives.

The testing of my blood pressure was administered today by a grad student here on the UNCG campus. My blood pressure was tested at 16/75mm H . I had this preformed within a grad students' apartment in Greensboro. Instruments that were used in the measurement of my blood pressure were both a stethoscope and a sphygmomanometer. For the administration, the grad student first wrapped the sphygmomanometer around my upper arm and placed the stethoscope right below it in order to hear my heartbeat. She then pumped up the sphygmomanometer until the compression of it caused her to not be able to hear my heartbeat. She then released the compressed air slowly and watched the gauge as it began falling slowly. When hearing the first heart beat, she recorded this as the top number, and for the last heartbeat heard through the stethoscope became the bottom number.

The results in which I received from this administration were in fact very good, and to my expectations. I was told that I should have no health concerns unless the upper number becomes higher than 140 or the bottom number becomes higher than 0-100. Although I was told I should have no health concerns, I am still going to take precautions and watch the amount of calories, fats, and salts I consume. All these substances could result in the raising of your blood pressure, and can lead to CVD. I also plan on taking more vitamins, as well as, increasing my physical activities to working out at least times a week. The reason for this is that I feel that my diet would not be considered a balanced diet, and the vitamins and exercise could help the balance of that.
